How to expose Corruption and Bribery ?

Hi IM'ers

I have information on tax evasion and bribery over the last 4 years by a particular proprietor in Goa, whom I bought a property off and discovered that my deeds were illegal. Are there any reputable bodies within Goa or India to expose this person, bodies that are straight and uncorruptable.

Also, a very good advocate either in Goa or India.

Cheers
Dellon

Dellon,

Are you sure that this "expose" will not come back to bite you in the butt? If you are part of an illegal transaction, you could get into trouble too.

Dellon. I would just let it go.If you take him to court it will take years and cost you a huge amount. You probably be classed as a trouble maker and be denied a visa <if you have a court case ,you can still get a visa >
I wouldnt make a enemy of a a Goan.

My case was not involved with bribery just a case of the deeds being handed to me on arrival even though I had'nt asked for them, like others. Do I just walk away Is that what you are saying Is that what you would do?

Quick thoughts:

-agree with crvlvr.

Also because

Few property transactions take place without at least some bribery. Your's probably did, too, even though you may not know about it.

- You will make some interesting enemies by exposing 'bribery and tax evasion'. Some of these will be private, some in government. That's fine, but do you understand what this might involve?

For some reason I'm reminded of friends of mine who at pertinent, and preferably not-so pertinent, moments like to quote Monty Python's Holy Grail when they find themselves in another tight spot:

Run away! Run away! Run away!

But, um, good luck with it. Sounds like another tough one.

Corruption

Right On machadinha, I was going to suggest to write a letter to the Governor and HEAD FOR THE HILLS,Just in case the Proprietor is Related to someone who Matters.

When I was in Goa last year, I saw members of the Local Constabulory collecting Taxes from Shack &
Restaurant owners, couldn't work out why they wern't issuing RECEIPTS.

This sort of crap goes on all over the world. unfortunately.

Ah! OK, well, due to overwhelming response, it's been restored. I had one of those bouts of I'm being mean here, you know how that is.

Anyway, see above (# 8). And I do wish OP the best with it. If it helps I'm not at all so sure.

If you encounter corruption in a government office there will be an appropriate enforcement officer to whom it should be reported. There is often a sign giving name and contact details in the department.

If you wish for action to be taken against an individual, I guess you must go to the police.

You may well find that it is necessary to bribe the policeman, even to take your report, and you will probably soon discover that your target individual has closer, more senior friends in the police force than you do.

Political friends will also protect him, and, if they are not immediately available to him, there will be thugs on call somewhere in this circuit of contacts.

You are a stranger in a place where this game is just mild amusement.

BTW... what is the implication for you of just walking away with your deeds?

I am somewhat perplexed by a few of your comments

Does that mean if you are a dalit you have no social mobility or that a woman burned by kerosene for not paying enough dowry that its ok because thats India. Should they also not report anything because they might upset someone.

Should it not be the case that foreigner or Indian you are not above the law in any country and that some of your views only serve to justify the status quo.

What has dalit issues or bride burning got to do with your case?
they are criminal cases and dealt with as such.

you have info on tax evasion and illegal deeds. you wanted to know the organization to lay information to. I donot know about tax evasion but you can definitely lodge a complaint with the police in case of the illegal documents.
How effective that will be in getting you justice depends on lots of factors. That is where the members have advised you to think ahead and then act.
