How does a lone traveller spend 10 days in goa?
Hi,
I'm a 24 year old male with 10 days or more to spend in goa. Arriving on sat afternoon with 3 nights booked in Anjuna. My first time in india with a budget of 1500INR a day but can go higher easily. What have other solo travelers done, hook up with others? Would you recommend just arriving and take it from there ( which is what I'll probably do) Not the best at advance planning and have very little booked except a train to cochin which if i decide not to take won't really bother me thanks |

Spend few days in a beach like Palolem which has a good vibe as well. It depends a lot on when you plan to reach Goa. Palolem practically shuts down in the summer and rainy season. Up north from Anjuna, Arambol is finds favor these days. Other than the beaches, you can also travel inland and see the Goan countryside. |

I'm flying in this sat 26th jan.
i like beach life ( and thoswho inhabit it) but not one for lying on the beach all day; I'd rather be in a coffee shop or bar with a newspaper or a stranger. I was thinking Arambol but would like to raid the bookshop and go into the countryside for a little while when I'm there. |

i'll tell you what i did Absinthe brat - in 2001 i flew down from Delhi to Goa - i read the lonely planet guide to india (Goa section) on the plane on the way downdown - turned to the section about Goa and looked at the little map (which if my memory serves me correctly - was on the fist page) i looked down the list of villages on the map and Calangute had a trumpet next to it - so i chose Calangute based on that- i went to the prepaid taxi kiosk and asked for a taxi to Calangute, a Goan gentleman came up to me at this point and told me he had a guest house in Calangute where there were a couple of English speaking guys already staying. We haggled for a bit and i got him down to Rs 150 per night (i only wanted basic accommodation.) so i got in the taxi with his card in my hand and told him i may see him later - i thought about it on the way to Calangute and realised that i didnt know of anywhere else to stay so off i went to this guest house (Veronica). i ended up extending my stay there from 6 weeks to 11 (this is when my visa expired) you will, like me, meet many people in Goa, from locals to tourists - the guest houses are better than hotels for meeting backpackers and Rs 1500 is more than enough to get by and have plenty of fun on! Definitely dont plan too much - take Goa as it comes and if you dont like the particular area you are staying in - move to a different one!
i used to rubbish at advanced planning - and if you have plenty of time on your hands - whats the point anyway?? take care and enjoy your Goa experience! |
