Holi Festival in Goa?

Hi there,

I will be in Goa around 15th of March (I believe this is the start date for the Holi Festival). Is the Holi Festival celebrated much in Goa or is it more of a Northern Indian celebration?

Holi is celebrated in Goa but not on the scale it is celebrated in other parts of India. Most of the festivities are mainly concentrated in the three main cities of Panjim, Vasco and Margao.

Better to avoid to be on the safe side especially for a female. There are a lot of unpleasant characters who use the cover of Holi to carry out some disgusting pranks.

And to be on the safe side of holi is recommended in any part of the country, not just Goa.

I left Goa the night before Holi and arrived in Hampi the morning of, had a great time (as a lone female) and never felt threatened.
It's a blurry photo but it'll give you an idea of just how much fun I had:

Think the temptation of throwing paint all over pale skin and light brown hair was too great, so everyone had a go!

If you're worried about getting into trouble in Goa you could always make the trip out to Hampi and back - I think it's too much fun to miss so actually planned my trip this year so I'd be in India for it again!

Bhang Lassis in Goa?

Hiya,

I was really hoping to catch Holi and it is great to hear that it is a little quieter and not as mental in Goa. Are bhang lassis available much in Goa? I thought they were more of a Rhajastan thing...Not that I would want to be drinking one of those awful things of course...

Thumbs up

Holi is great! We did a special party for the slum children this year, obviously some get picked on (me being one of them!), but it's great fun, some of my photos are on our website... Got more to put up but no time, maybe next week....

As you can see from the photos... Everyone enjoys it, unfortunately a lot of the parents in the slums drink too much and they can get out of hand (with each other), but a good day was had with all...
