Lightbulb Hi ... I just joined...

Hello Ppl,

This is such a great forum..... My name is John and I am currently in London. I am a NRI and am planning to buy a house ( preferably a duplex ) in Goa.

I was so thrilled to read many of the posts here ... from people who have lived through the hippy years in goa to so may foreigners who want to make Goa their home.

I have visited Goa only once .... 10 years ago.... when i was a 14 yr old kid..... and i stayed there for about 15 days ..... that single journey so way back in time is still etched clearly in my memories...... I am still in love with that place...... it was a trip with my parents and a busy life ahead ensured i maintained distance from this dream land......

I want to now buy a apartment or duplex in Goa..... from reading from threads i know that Goa has changed ....and old hotspots like calangute and baga are all now filty ( i assume ) and too maddening.

The reason I need you guys help is ..... because you know Goa at the back of your hand.

Please suggest where i should buy...

the criterias which i am considering but not necessarily compulsory are:

1) should be decently close to airport and easily reacheable.... about 30-40 min is fine

2) should not be too secluded ... i love a bit of crowd... so arambol would be out ( too far )

3) are places like majorda colva pretty for a holiday home.

4) should have easy access to city center and be close to beach.

5) Crime rate should not be high ( Goa has very low crime rate but I don't want to go to a place which accounts for the most of the crimes in goa ..... no rough neighbourhood please .... )

Sorry for troubling you guys .... I have googled so many pages that i am confused.... i don't rely on propery developers coz they make every place on earth sound like paradise. I know there would be some who would be angry with ppl like me coz we are the main reason who property prices are rising and goa is getting more populated...... I would like to apologise to these people..... but i looked at holiday homes to buy all over europe from spain to greece to everywhere but dunno why i kept going back to pages on Goa....maybe because it is my homeland and i love being among my own people love the cuisine and the heritage or maybe because You never forget your First Love ....and Goa was my first love.

Regards
take careand have a nice day

John

Think if you really could use this. Else, you'll be only adding to the clutter, the concrete, strengthening the builders' lobby, and supporting some possibly corruption set of politicians... You could get better value for your money by spending on a hotel whenever you choose to holiday here.

For every NRI, I suspect there are 20 foreigners trying to buy illegally. Majorda/ Betalbatim are 50 mins Panaji, 30 mins airport, 15 mins Margao, 5 mins Colva. You need to stay a few months to get a feel for an area. I wouldn't recommend buying until you're certain.
Good luck........

yeah... i plan to come to goa in october this year .... will be driving you all crazy with my questions when i an ready to come down...

fredrick : well, once i have a house there, i would be coming every prime season or someone from my extended family would be coming down quite often for holidays .... though somewhere at the backof my mind, i think i would be guilty of adding concrete to a beautiful place like goa ........ though i feel guilty about it, i also want to be selfish and own a house in goa .... Not a good thing I know .... and i apologise for that.... but these are my honest answers .....

I do think i am also weird coz, though i am just 25 yrs old, i want a house in a beautiful place where i can take my friends to for holidays.... after being to their places in other parts of the world .... i wanted to show them the beauty of goa .... but then again as hippy rightly pointed out... it would be a rash decision to buy before i have even come down to visit ......

Well fingers crossed .... i hope I fall in love with Goa all over again .....

thanks for your advices ppl
will bug you all with loads of questions once i have my flight ticket in hand.

have a nice day
John
