Question Help! Info on Ragbaga beach please.

I am going to the Grand Intercontinental 1st April 06. Will there be any beach shacks open close by? Is the golf couse actually any good? What does the hotel charge it`s guests to use it?
Any tips e.g. taxi fare rates, etc, would be useful.
Thanks.

Hi gibson, Welcome to Indiamike,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I'm thinking you mean Raj Baga though I don't have first hand experience of it.

Was in Patnem in 2003. The beach next to Rajbag.
There were a few places open until May!
April 1st. there should be many places open!
Palolem is also close by and they have places open year round!

YOU CAN GO TO
WWW.PALOLEM.COM
And look under the accomadations area and they have the web site listed for the Hotel Intercontinental.
They might have info about what you are seeking!

Hi,
the Intercontinental Rajbag also includes a rather swish beach of it's own I know I used to wander along it in days gone bye! The southern end kinda mirrors Palolem itself.
The golf course isn't really much more than a big "pitch and putt" and I'm pretty sure it must be included in the price of a room!
As for shacks well at low tide you can get to Patnem, careful on the rocks!! (of course the walk via the road, isn't more than 20 minutes) where the food is pretty decent I believe, with all sorts of options!
Other than that take a stroll away from the Hotel on the main road and get some local transport into Palolem where shacks/restaurants come at you like mozzies. With lots of them serving up some very decent nosh!..........Mexican/Italian/Goan/Indian...... and the shops there will cater to your every need. Well almost!

Real fares from Raj Bag to Palolem

By Rickshaw 40rps

Taxi (local) 100rps

Walk 1 KM to the left out of the IC and pick up a bus (until around 8pm) 7rps.

Rest assured there is a wealth of great food to be had in this area and it's all within easy reach!

Happy days!

Talking rajabag and intercontinental

hi, we stayed at the intercontinental earlier this year for a week. Its a lovely hotel with really nice rooms!(should be for the price!).

the hotel has its own beach shack on its own beach, but its rubbish! very small menu and expensive! the restuarants in the hotel are pretty good and reasonable and so is rom serivce.

we walked across the rocks at the end of the beach to the next beach, and there are beach shacks here, but if oyu keep wlaking you come to palolem where there are loads of shacks! We went in the shacks here and got a rickshaw back. But be warned, when they ask you where you are going to and you say the intercontinental they inflate the prices, as they think you are rich! They tried charging 400Rs for the ride,a bout 5mins!

Also, if you need a taxi to the airport dont get the hotel to order you a taxi, they also rip you off! Try to arrange one the day before with a taxi you know form nearby if possible. WE didnt do this and had to get the hotel taxi to the airport. It cost 2000Rs!!!!!!!!!! the week before we got a taxi donw form Morjim, in the far north to rajbag and only cost 1200Rs!

Saying all tihs, the staff at the hotel are very very nice! and cant do enough for you and the swimup pool bar is great! YOu will enjoy the hotel!

Many thanks, very useful stuff. On subject of taxis, when we stayed at Taj Exotica there were many waiting just outside the hotel grounds which were cheaper than thro concierge. Were there any in a similar position at the InterC?

yeah there are. You need to walk out of the hotel grounds and turn left, walk a lttile, about 50metres. You may need to haggle with them as they try to charge you hotel prices at first!!!!

I suggest a walk to the Chaudi junction where you will get charged a reasonable rate. Any taxis outside of the hotel will have dollar signs in their eyes!
To the junction it's a pleasant 10-15 minute walk and totally safe!

I gather there is one small shop in the hotel. What do they sell? Also, are there any local stores where cashew nuts, fruit, alcohol can be bought?

There's a couple of shops opposite the hotel where you can buy stuff like this be to the left of the main gate! Careful though perhaps their prices will also reflect their proximity to the Intercontinental!
In Palolem, Patnem or Chaude you'll definitely get proper prices!! I suggest you stock up there!

Just a thought, what is the "mix" like of various nationalities in the IC? Some hotels seem to specialize in certain nations ( Radisson, Renaissance in particular ).
