Help and ADVICE with accomodation in Baga/Calangute
Greetings to everyone! (I'm currently typing this with 5 other guys sitting behind me.... !)
I/We are in desperate need of SOME HELP AND ADVICE regarding Accomodation.... We are 6 guys travelling to Goa, during the last week of this month. (Nov 25th-30th) We're Doctors who only JUST graduated this week (yey! )...so this Goa-trip is meant to purely Party. The PROBLEM is that we're CLUELESS about accomodation, since this is the FIRST time we're 'doing goa'.Also, we're on a shoestring (Indian) budget- especially, accomodation wise, since the majority our expenses are likely to be spent on more important stuff- i.e. beer/food/partying 1. Some Googling reveals that Baga/Calangute is tourist-central so we will probably try to stay somewhere there. 2. We are also very taken with the idea of staying in Beach Shacks. We are willing to 'rough it' and basically, all we need is a place to SAFELY lock our bags during the day and to sleep for a few hours in the night. We would REALLY appreciate help and ADVICE pertaining to accomodation...pretty please!! 1. HOW do we go about BOOKING a Beach Shack? (please, outline How)... or is it possible to land up in Baga and then score a shack? What about rates? 2. We are 6, so is there any limit/rule on the number of people who can stay in 1 shack? (real cheapies- we know! )or is like a regular Hotel room, 2-a-room??3. If worse comes to worst, we have to stay in a Hotel, is it possible to land up in Baga/Calangute and then find a room, considering it'll be Nov-end? 4. Again, we're 6, so considering we take a Hotel Double Room with an extra mattress...How much could we be looking at per night? (ballpark figure) 5.What about any Dormitory type accomodation? or Homestays? Are those as cost-effective as Beach shacks? I'm sorry to itemize my querys, and for them to be so many, but please...we're lost here! Lend 6 frrresh Doctors a hand! We know CPR.... aand how to get rid of a hangover! Thanks in advance for any efforts taken, Will be watching the space below like a hawk, warm regards, Dinesh Francis |

Do you mean a beach hut ? i call them wicker baskets in trees. There are no beach huts on Calangute/Baga beach.Beach shacks are where you go and eat/drink and sun bathe . Go to one of the shacks on Baga beach and ask the staff if they know a place where you can stay. I always go in TGI Fridays and lots of guys go there and ask about rooms. There are a lot of rooms to rent out close by to TGI shack. Dormitory type accommodation? I wouldnt stay in one of them if you paid me to ! I think a room somewhere round by Baga beach should be 500rs a night each. As long as no festival is on,if a festival is on it will be more and you have trouble finding any rooms. Oh so you are a dentist ! Thats good i wish i was there you could look at me teeth . |

Thank you for the replies!
@patti123 @goagirlwannabee We're taking your advice and will go with flow.... We've decided to make a leap of faith and land up in Goa with NO reservations, but armed with a list of numbers JUST IN CASE. I guess it'll be worth the first few hours of Goa that we'll spend scouting around for a decent room, as long as its clean, and a bargain.... so we can enjoy the rest! Hopefully, those shacks on Baga will point us in the right direction and we can settle down quick. God forbid they are not of much help, we plan to pull the Info-sheets we're printing (see below) and make some calls and hopefully end up with SOME accomodation, at least. We found some good info online @ Submerge.in, which basically gives a long list of Contact Numbers, beach wise, for what i guess are budget-accomodation, of all sorts. All credit for compiling this goes to a 'nanju' - a fellow member of Submerge: http://www.submerge.in/bulletin/show...?t=3500&page=2 It's an excellent list, IMHO, and besides providing the link, i'm thinking of copy-posting the whole things on IndiaMike. In case that link ever goes bad, at least any future readers of this thread will get their info at this place itself. I'll defer to any senior member's opinion on this though....do it or not? |

I remember 5 Uk guys last season stayed in a room by baga beach and 4 had beds but the other one had the floor only. There used to be rooms where the owners didnt mind how many were in there but i think they are few and far between now.

Right, so i've gone ahead and copy-posted from the link i had submitted earlier, since it'll be a good resource to have on the Indiamike site itself...
I've called up a few random numbers and they all worked, so the info on the list is correct, for the most part. Hope this will prove as useful for others as it was for me.... Warm Regards, Dinesh Quote:
