wow! CH...thanks a lot for that wonderful writeup! Getting a print to have it handy..accompanied with one of Goa Road Map.
Thanks again! Am sure a couple of churches will be covered in ur plan. Damn!!! Now with that plan of yours am thinking of ditching my friends on that camping plan and do only cycling right till the last beach near Karnataka border

Hey where is Assgoa rather the skatepark there to be more specific? Tho chances of skating out there are dwindling for lack of time.. but wud be glad to know, just in case you know.

Where did you get that map?
Got it here. But there is one more I saw the other day ..someone shared that on IM. The second one is India-only, I think. Yes...go for "Driving Directions" to get the road maps. Have fun!

why do choose to camp?? i feel it could be dangerous.crazy ppl frm all over the world r in goa.
why not rent a room at a local's hut and eat local goan food ??? that would be funnn. and it surely is affordable and u wont need to go through setting up a tent and worrying about mosquitos.
think about it and have fun.

Goooooooaaaaaaa

I tend to agree with the post above.

Take a look at www.macprofessor.com for information on huts in Agonda. It's truly a magical place.

nope....its not been a problem so far with tents.....just in Vengurla that I had to take a room as i reached late and cud not find a good site to peg my tent.... last night at Morjin was awesome.... wanted to just be in my tent looking at the setting crescent but found myself sipping Smiroff and relishing Gobi Manchurian at a near by hotel.... no mosq so far i had to tackle....4th day on cycle...... and going for a tent in not a matter of 'affordability' for me

Merry X-Mas to you all the IMers!!!!

at Vagotar beach now...heading to Anjuna and then down towards Karwar...may be tomorrow....after a stop overnight somewhere on the way...

cheers,
Amyl

yea its been going great but reaching the end of my trip tomorrow....and kinda screwed up at the last part....my assumption that Neeta Volvo or some other volvo wud allow cycles to Kolhapur turned out to be outrageous..alas!! so have to head down to Karwar to find some possibilities...trains out of question as I was told i will have to go to Madgao...am not in for that idea. so better cycle down...

reached Palolem today after a BEAUTIFUL night at Cabo De Rama fort...actually I wanted to reach the CDR beach but ended up at the fort...so camped there right in the fort....was a wonderful experience...the fort is nice...gives a nice view of the rocky shores down on the north. two rounds of Ramonov + Kaju Fenny + Fireplace + cool breeze + Enigma music + being alone really took me high...really high last night . Could be a night above Morgim night.

and today missed one turn for Agonda so had to cycle some extra miles on the same road to have a nice time at Agonda.....for me that was the best beach I have been to in Goa...rest are just not my taste. spent just enuf time to utter "what the hell is this place" at Baga, Anjuna, Calangute and Palolem......Agonda rules!

btw CH that road to Cabo...rather i took it from Cabo to Agonda was a grueling experience...man o man... what "monster" slopes they are....but thoroughly enjoyed it tho was a real pain in the butt.

BTW Train Gurus.... any help of any trains from Karwar to up north?...I can even get down at Ratnagiri....any chances of 'Passenger' trains...rather any train that does not require reservations?
am sure i can directly go to the station an hour or so before departure and load my cycle...

Those Buggers
I had similar experience with Raj Travels, Paulo, Neeta... you name it, all they ask, "is it a (Children’s) tricycle, then you can take, else NO".

Taking cycle in Passenger train will be a good idea, just check out the www.konkanrailways.com for the timings. The hassle of booking cycle in train is pain in ass, but thankfully feasible.

Another very reliable and good idea (it had worked for me & now I rely on that only) is to get a lift in one of the numerous trucks plying on the highway. Give or take an hour or two for this effort. It usually works better in roadside eateries away from towns, where the vehicles stop. The chances of stopping moving vehicles are next to nil. You might not get lift all the way to your final destination at one go, but you can get to an intermediate location and repeat.
Finalise the amount beforehand; few good guys often refuse any money.

Best of Luck

Anindya

hmm... lets see...things will be clear only when i reach Karwar by noon. Kinda optimistic to find some volvo to allow my cycle, else those boring Govt ST buses...
yeah! I like hitch hiking and it wud be wonderful from here...but will keep it as a last option as am running out of time.

thanks for the idea

Asking for train info in a thread titled Goa is unlikely to produce results, I just spotted the above post and my reply is maybe too late.

Don't go south to Karwar, go north to Madgaon.

Train KR8 UP departs Madgaon daily at 07:15 and gets to Ratnagiri at 12:00, it calls at all stations on route, (not sure what station you want), the train goes all the way to Diva near Mumbai arriving at 21:15.

It's just a passenger train, so no rservations needed.

I have no idea if you'll be allowed to put the bike in the brake van (or wherever they put them), maybe best to check it out the day before.

hmmm too late but worth noting...wud have loved to take that passenger to Ratnagiri...yes that is where i wud have alighted to take a bus to Kolhapur. well, that wud be too much of traveling to go to kolhapur but that is what i was there for

but eventually i headed down to Karwar xpecting some bus service...so reached Karwar at 2:15PM and on a bus headed to Mumbai at 3:10PM... absolutley had no time to wander on the Karwar beaches...they looked nice from the roads...anyways...may be next time

reached home the same night....sound and safe and veyr hungry for Bhakari and Pitale

more later...

btw thanks all amnd Steve for all the useful information... specially to CH for the rought route and Anindya for the tips

it was indeed a memorable trip!!!
