Goa Trance and Partys...

I myself began my Journeys in India in Goa some ten years ago...

The parties back then where amazing and I am still stuck on some of the music... (Ask me if you need some guidlines on what to hear). Do you like the music? Did you go to the partys way back in the day? Did you vissit the wednesday Fleamarket loong before they sold out? When Anjuna was still a Hippie Paradice?
Breakfast in the White Negro? The Primrose? Living on the rooftop of Manalis Guessthouse maybe?

Please do tell me about it

Peace

Ahhhh....nice memories. I was a regular at Primrose in 93-94 and I used to get upset when they shut the place at 2AM because sunrise was after 6am and there was nothing to do for the remainder of the night. We used to buy a few bottles and head to the beach and keep drinking until dawn.
On one occasion my friend had one of those hash cakes at the flea market(in 1990) and became so cuckoo that he ended up losing his shoes and shirt while riding the motorcycle back to Panjim.

Yeah I was partying hard for the first time in Goa in 1993-94
It seemed the natural progression from the acid house scene in UK in 188-89 and was the next logical step from the European party scene

Trance developed slowly with a few wrong turns but I feel is now producing some of its best recently

As a music form it is the last underground scene in 'dance' music and more strenght to it. The hedonistic play ground Ko Phan Ghan is dead and buried despite the regular full moon parties. Lets hope Goa can survuive intact with the madness and inhibitions it's renowned for ...

From my last visit in 2002 it seems it is still strong and dominant...no abd thing, though some of the parties have been poor ...

Ahh the Primrose hahahaha ...magic
Anyone for a bhaji breakie and a fruit juice in chapora.

One classic memory is taking the boat over to a party
Is the bridge built yet? ...queues of bikes waiting tog et on...peeps dancing
then we get on ...one enfield ends up off the side...inexperienced rider loses balance and lsoes the enfield

half way over the moon comes up RED ...the boat erupts then the shore erupts then the other shore erupts ...stills ends shivers up my spine!!!!!!

Long live trance!

It's very hot in Goa now. I'm sitting in the Primrose writing this and the temperature is a sweltering 31 C. I saw a few bikes parked outside the 9 Bar this evening but you can forget about parties for the time being. Last night was full moon and the only thing happening was at the Paradisdo but who wants to go there? Besides they charge admission and it's the wrong kind of crowd anyway. Lots of people on Vagator beach during the day and Curley's in Anjuna is a good place to hang out also.

Question

What is the party scene like now? Has it changed much? Are there still huge outdoor parties in Dec/Jan or is it much smaller? I've been hearing that the Police have clamped down on them and they ain't what they were

I went to a few parties in anjuna about 10 years ago and have always thought they,d never be what they were. The dominant image of goa in the uk now is package tour sum loungers and middle aged brits opening bars like spain a few years back. I,d be very glad to have this myth demolished. I think the sun rise on anjuna beach with people dancing ine sea would be almost unspoilable if it still happens?

motherbear,

A few of the IMers are planning to meet up in goa during New Years. Here is the thread . I was in Goa last year and most of those parties were last minute affairs. So we might have to decide after we get there. You should trrack that thread for the latest..

Cheers m'dears. Will pass info on to my m8 and get him to sign up to this board. They'll be over for a month, so i guess they'd appreciate the chance to meet up with like-minded folks.

Are Shrooms easy to get at the parties or is it more LSD/Ecstacy? Much, much prefer shrooms

Yeah you'll here how 10-15 years ago you could share a spliff with the police and tehya ctually helped you set up the party

Take it from me the police have been raiding parties for many years to extort more backsheesh. The friendly Goa bobby would wait on the anjuna Vagator road with lathis to get you to stop when on your bike ...No helmet or licence and probably a small oiece of charris ...A nice baksheesh earner for our corrput little friends. So no option but to head down and speed up. This wouldnt deter them and they'd try and hit you off the bike

The parties still happen just as they did
One of the major differnces is the nunber of drunk Indian males at parties
Like it or not this is creating tensions ...and many western party heads would rather not party with indians. Have to say I dont appreciate indian men rubbing themselves against my partner and trying to punch me because theyc annot handle their alcohol

This seems to be the major difference ...This has got significantly worse int he last 15 years
The music is still top quality and the parties when good are the best anywhere

Its miore an acid scene
However it is much cleaner than the crap that used to float around UK
You may be suprised ...Mushrooms less prevalent ...more of a SEA thing
All in its mostly top quality ...Its all relative though

Thanks Bryan for all the info. Pleased to hear the the acid is clean Been a while since I last tripped on Acid. In the past I've found it far easier to reach 'the state' whilst on shrooms rather than acid. Acid can be too intense and too long, while shrooms I've found juuuusssssstttt fine

I ask about the mushrooms cause I have heard that one or two people might be selling as they bring them through from Kodaikannal (the only place in India where MMs grow it would seem). I've tried the shrooms whilst in Kodai and they were the same type as you get in Mexico (not that I've been there, but I tried the Mexican type a while back in Amsterdam) and they were BEAUTIFUL. Maybe I'll be lucky, who knows. Are the parties always last minute now?
