Goa to Mumbai Mandovi Express
I'll be travelling in early May on the Mandovi Express from Goa (station Thvm?) to Mumbai, overnight first class.
Has anyone got any comments on this. Should I know anything? It's my first time on an Indian train. I need to book a hotel to stay the next night before my international flight to UK. Can someone please recommend a medium price hotel in Mumbai, quiet if possible? Thanks, ![]() |

I'd say 2-tier air con may be preferred for a female travelling alone, better to be alone with 45 others in an open carriage than with 1 or 3 others in a lockable compartment.

Indian trains are really good and normally well organized they tend to put backpackers together and they always serve food!
When i was in India I always traveled sleeper class and had no problems and met some great people. if you wanna keep to yourself then go on the upper levels and you won't get bothered. |

Take the Kokan (overnight) 2AC and everything will be fine. Take a upper bed and lock your luggage under the lower seats.
There will travel foreigners as well as native people who can afford this class. U have to worry more when u use the London tube... |

Goa to Mumbai Mandovi Express
Thanks for your comments. I will be travelling with a male companion. He made the train bookings over the internet and told me it will be overnight arriving Mumbai approx: 4.50am. Well, I was looking forward to sleeping on an Indian train.
What about a suitable hotel in Mumbai? ![]() |
