Train is a nice journey but quite long. From Goa it takes around 9 hours to read the kerela border and then depending how far into kerela you are going. To nearly the boarder a cheap seat cost around £1...

If you got the time, choose the 2nd class train option for this specific journey. Period. There are a couple o' stickies on the Indian Railways sub-forum that can answer your question on price. Search away.

Of course, the best way to travel is still the mule. Best wishes.Clint
And you can get mule costings from any popular mule site.
You can also get all flying info from www.ixigo.com and train info from www.indianrail.gov.in
Easy!

There is a Konkan Railway train, early in the morning that leaves Goa for Kerala. Views are amazing. Do a search for Konkan Railway and you will see what I mean.
As for hotels see

Enjoy your stay in Kerala.
I am looking forward to mine in December :-)

Hi drayman,
For a hotel near railway station in Ernakulam (Kochi) try the
Abad Metro or Yuvarani Residency. They both can be reached by email
hotel@yuvaraniresidency.com - for Abad Metro just go to website for Abad Hotels Kerala.

I'm travelling from Battle to Tonbridge by train, can anyone offer advice please.
Because you don't say you 'want' to travel, we can assume you already have a confirmed ticket, if not, you still have the difficult bit to deal with, getting a ticket.
Are you in India yet?
Where else are you travelling?
Where will you be staying in Goa?
Where else do you plan to go in Kerala?
What's your budget?
How many travelling?
All these questions are important and will lead to the best options for you regarding trains and itinerary order.
