Palolem to Gokarna is over 100 km and is a little too far for a comfortable day trip. You need to spend at least 3 days in Gokarna to take in the natural beauty of all the beaches near Gokarna. Don't forget to visit Om Beach, http://usandeep.tripod.com/trekking/gokarna.html

Thanks

Hotel Gokarna International is the best hotel in the town.

In the town itself you can check out Hotel Gokarn International http://www.geocities.com/hotelgokarn/, which is cheaper; the rooms have cable TV and bathrooms. I think it's relatively good value for money, doubles starting from 200 rps onwards. Besides, you're in town and closer to the beaches.

If you prefer to stay right on the beach, you'll find loads of guesthouses on all three beaches (Main, Kudle, OM) with basic rooms starting at 40 rps.

I agree with GoanCanuck: give it a few days, the town has its own special vibe and the beaches are nice. I figure the easiest way to go from Palolem to Gokarna is by train, which will take a couple of hours. Gokarn Town itself, however, is a bit off from the train station, so you'll have to take a bus/rickshaw ride of about 15-20 mins. I guess you'll also find buses from Palolem that will take you straight into Gokarn Town. Either way, you'll figure it out once you get there!

Enjoy!

Right, we're talking about the same one...

Downstairs is the Downtown Bar, always good for a drink (and entertainment, if you consider two waiters getting into a fistfight as entertainment). And a veg restaurant on the other side.

Namaste Cafe

Hi,
if you plan to stay in gokarna...then the best place would be Namaste Cafe which is right on Om Beach....its a beautiful place with about 15 shacks or so and each shack has a diff theme to it...like one room is circular..everything like the bed, the table the stools the bathroom everything is circular!!...another room is made of just thatch....another one is like a log cottage....very nice place....and awesome place to chill out on a full moon night and watch the beach.....mind you its total hippy style...but yes they do have a phone with ISD facilities and I think they also have a internet connection for the noe-hippies......but getting there and getting out is a min 30 min trek up a hill from where u get a breathtaking view of om beach, kudla beach and half moon beach...if you are interested I can give you the no of the guy who runs the place...dont have it right now...

Peace

Is the Namaste cafe going to be around or not? I heard earlier this year that those shacks on Om Beach had been given eviction orders due to the big hotel being constructed at Om beach.
