Chantellexxxx, for a start to your research you may want to go thru the entire history of the Goa sub-forum on this website, or pick up the Lonely Planet/Rough Guide on Goa from your local library. then, if you explain your specific circumstances/requrements/outlook/questions i am sure some helpful soul here will be happy to advise you....good luck

Will be in Goa by early march, not sure what my accomodation situation will be, but on somewhat of a budget so if you've found good places let me know!

Ria, goa accomodation prices can vary from Rs 200 a night to Rs 12,000 a night [use RS 44 to a US Dollar to convert] , with most upmarket places (read: 3 and 4 star) falling in the Rs 1,800 - RS 3,000 category for march, when the season starts tapering down as the month goes along. Rs 1,000 - 1,500 gets you nice smaller hotels in the 2 star category. and rooms in shacks (not shanty shacks but an acronym for B&B ie. houses! ) on or near the beach are around Rs 500-700 a night. these are basic rooms with a bed, aircon a premium add-on, attached bath (basic but clean), mini-fridge, sometime a phone sometimes not. after a while in goa one does not miss phones, or aircon for that matter. i suggest you first pick an area and then a hotel within it. if you want a busier (but not too busy segment), and upmarket, then stay in candolim. if you want more bohemian/laid-back, anjuna. a little more quiet, then morjim or arambol. it may in fact be interesting for you to stay in the main tourist strip of baga/calangute for a couple of days as that is the busiest spot with a lot of hotels/clubs/restaurants/shacks. i personally stay in candolim except for the times i want either a more chilled or wild time, when i stay in anjuna. if you want specific recommendations feel free to PM and i can recommend some places in the category you want. good luck with your trip.

Hi VinodLondon
Thanks so much for the tips.. I've been in the Philippines for the last couple weeks and havn't had aircon a tv or a phone once and don't really miss then at all. I do like having a private bathroom, perferably with a toilet, with seat that flushes.. more than that and I don't really care. I'm thinking I might start with candolim and then move around.. I'll probably ask for some more advice once I have a better idea when I'll be where. thanks! Ria |
