Goa: safe for single female?
Goa: safe for single female?
Am considering going to Goa over a long Diwali weekend (11/9 to 11/11)- is Goa safe for a woman travelling alone? Are there any special precautions I should take?
You may want to loook up this information provided by the Goan Police:

ive been there several times - always on my own and ive alwayd felt fine - just keep your usual guard up. I live in london and I think goa is alot safer
Some Indian men think foreign women are "easy", and you may be hassled. But in Goa, I'd think it's more of the men from interstate, than the locals. Other than that, Goa is safe for women, and property. At first I was scared someone might rob my motorbike from outside my hotel, but as everyone told me, it's rare in Goa.

I've advised women to be wary of fellow male travelers before anything else, and they told me it was good advice. Goa is not completely safe for a woman alone!
Women are raped with depressing regularity. The place is a rapist’s playground.
Don’t walk in the hills alone, even in the day [beach is safe in daylight]; don’t walk out of partys to pee in the bushes alone. Don’t get too drunk or stoned in an area where you may be vulnerable on your way home.
My wife has been attacked seveal times, walking on the hill behind our house with 3 dogs [she carries mace and a knife]. There are attacks and rapes every year.
The locals are cool, but Goa attracts the worst scum of the entire country in the tourist season; have fun, but be aware that there are evil people everywhere, even in India.
And they are lurking around the Goa beaches, hillsides, and darkness around the party areas.

hey anjuna mark, where in Goa would you recommend as being the safest? What town's areas seem to be worst?
I go to Goa alone but be careful - it's not the same place as it used to be! There's a lot of outerstaters who love gorping at white females (take photos etc)and crime has been on the increase. You would be careful and wary over here, be the same there!
Anjuna Mark - your comments reminded me of a conversation I had with an American guy on the Main Bazaar in Delhi four or five years ago. This guy was in his 50s and really intense. But he was quite fired up about what he perceived was the large number of western women who get raped in the tourist spots in India every year, particularly in HP and Goa, which never make the news. I think he had been doing some research into this. Now I know violence against women can and does happen everywhere in the world, but he certainly made me sit up and take note.

It’s all about the same; 99% fine and safe, just avoid the last percent.Don’t walk down the beach [any beach] alone at night, and don’t wander the hills between the beaches alone. That’s where the predators can attack.
Sure, guys will likely hit on you everywhere [white and Indian], I’m sure you can handle that.
