Goa: Rental deposit?
Hi guys, could someone please advise me as to the normal rental agreements in Goa. Is it 1 months rent and 2 months advance hence totaling 3 months before moving in etc.....
I've also tried following the link that capt. mahanjan recommended but can seem to get more information on the schools. thirdly,i'll be working in panjim so is living in panjim recommended or are the surrounding areas better? Thanks very much all. Any info is greatly appreciated. ![]() Last edited by machadinha : Nov 4th, 2007 at 02:45. Reason: adjusted title |

It is usually 3 months here in Delhi but the custom varies from place to place. I understand that one has to pay a very hefty deposit for renting accomodation in Bangalore.

In Goa, it is whatever you can agree on!
However, as a rough guide - if you rent through an agency or agent, they will require around 2-3 months deposit. The agency's commission is in there somewhere too (though you should ask). On the plus side, you will get to sign a formal lease agreement. Read the terms and conditions, make sure you agree with everything. And make sure that you have an 'exit' option (i.e. if you want to end the lease earlier, that they don't keep your deposit). Same thing with advanced payment, though I wouldn't advise you to pay more than one month's rent in advance. I've just moved out of a house where the owner 'swallowed' about a month's rent (I paid 3 months in advance) - US$220. You don't want to go through such unpleasantness! Panjim is great, everything is close, although I'm not sure what the prices are like. If you go a bit past Panjim (~3km) to Dona Paula, you can find quality Western-style apartments, town houses and houses (depending on your needs). |

Goa: Rental Deposit
The rental deposit in Goa is generally 3 months. There is generally a notice period of one month in the agreement.
I would recommend a good broker as they would take care of all agreement hassles. You generally stick with a three month deposit and one month notice period for a 11 month lease. Living in panjim is OK if you can afford the rent. A decent fully furnished 2BHK apartment would cost you anywhre from Rs30000 onwards. |
