goa - palolem to dudhsagar mid october Hi, My first post, so a little apprehensive should the queries I post here be too silly to IMers. Small background: I, along with 5 others (friends and family), including a 10yr old boy, plan to visit Goa mid October. 3N Palolem and subsequently 3N at Calangute. I was wondering how can we access the Dudhsagar falls during this time (would be interested to carry a small hamper and have a bit of picnic around the pool at its base). Whatever information I could gather is that the nearest railhead is Kulem (although it seems that there is a station called Dudhsagar onwards in the direction of Castle Rock). My questions: 1. Would we get any transport from Kulem/Dudhsagar station to the base of the falls (not all of us are athletic enough to trek to the base)? 2. Since Dudhsagar has its own station, are any passenger trains available from Madgaon to Dudhsagar? 3. what would be more convenient - hiring a taxi straight from palolem to the base of the falls, or,taking a train from Madgaon to Kulem/Dudhsagar and then taking a car from there? thanks a ton in advance. regards

Dudhsagar station has been closed, for a few years I think.

Hi Apputim, Most tourists use one of the local tour operators in Calangute, check out www.johnboattrips.com his jeep tour was really good. And his price appears to be the same as it was two years ago. You need a four wheel drive to get anywhere near the falls, I don't think a normal car could handle it. Have a good time. I'll be back in Goa myself in November. Sue

Hi Steve & Sue, Thanks a ton for the information. Taking the organised tour from Calangute can really be an option (as Sue suggested). I was also wondering whether we can make this excursion on our own - so that we have our own time to spend in places of interest. In that respect, to all IMers, any idea whether four wheel drive cars can be hired from Kulem (or any other point near Dudhsagar)? Sue, have a wonderful time in Goa. regards

Jeeps can be hired at Kulem/Molem itself..& as you traveling in group of 6 it will be economical too..... Dudhsagar waterfall falls in three stages (stepwise) & railway track (& Dudhsagar station) is along 1'st step(cosidering waterfall:- top to base)...so even if you somehow managed to get down at Dudhsagr station you'll need to trek 2-3 km down to reach base of waterfall....going to Kulem/Molem & taking vehicle from there will be the best option .

Hi Swapnil, Thanks a ton for the helpful update. Incidentally, while browsing IM, also found a very help link posted by steve sometime in July 2007 (of a previous post). That was quite helpful as well. (link: Dudh Sagar Water Falls) Thanks a ton Steve, and in hindsight, I should have dug more into IM. Looking forward to Goa. regards,
