Hi Goan Canuck,

I am interested in the price & description of the guesthouse you posted earlier (below) RS 1600 per room per night, that would be ideal. I would require 2 x Double rooms (one with an extra bed) to accomodate 5 of us.

If not I would consider others that are not too far off that price.

Many thanks
Chet

It was a nice guesthouse run by a Goan family in a quiet area of Calangute with a room/ attached bathroom with hot water. A colour TV was provided along with a fridge.

It would work out more than 1600/day for you because you are staying for a shorter period of time. The person who paid the above rate had booked for a longer period.

Another option would to book one 2 bedroom apartment since there are five of you.

Yes a 2 bedroom Apartment would also be fine.

If you can find out the availability & cost and let me know I will consider it and get back to you as soon as possible. I dont mind some flexibility on the price or dont mind staying another day extra if it makes any difference to the cost, it just depends what you can get for us.

The idea is to stay in the north area for a few days during the new yr celebrations and then head down South for a more relaxing/quieter holiday.

Goa

I'm not positive. I know Goa is a very busy place during the Holidays and you have to book places ahead of time, but I was planning on finding a room as soon as I got off the train. So nowhere in particular. What part are you guys going to be in?

Goa beaches target on Dec. 31?
By Namrata Biji Ahuja

New Delhi

Oct. 15: The world famous beaches of Goa are on the hitlist of Indian Mujahideen (IM) which has been planning a terrorist strike in the city around New Year eve this year at a time when it is the most crowded. IM members arrested in Delhi in connection with the Delhi serial blasts, have told their interrogators that the outfit has been planning to strike in Goa in December 2008.

The target is American, British and Israeli tourists, who are the most frequent visitors to Goa.

This is not the first time that terrorist outfits have planned to strike in Goa. Goa is in the crosshairs of international terror combine, according to intelligence officials. Officials believe that the IM is closely following the Al Qaeda whose strategy is to strike at tourist spots.

The arrest of Lashkar-trained Simi-HuJI terrorist Raziuddin Nasir earlier this year gave security agencies an insight into the larger IM-Simi gameplan to target Goa. Nasir was arrested by security agencies from Honnali in Karnataka in connection with the July 26 Ahmedabad serial blasts. Nasir told security agencies that the outfit was planning a terrorist strike in Goa in January 2007. He along with his associates had done a recce of Goa on stolen motorcycles, it was revealed. Nasir is the son of Moulana Naseeruddin of Hyderabad, who is in Sabarmati jail in connection with the murder of former Gujarat home minister Haren Pandya.

Intelligence sources said that Nasir had undergone training in Lashkar camps in Pakistan. According to the police, Nasir was assigned the specific task of carrying out terror strikes in India and of targeting American citizens in Goa.

Simi chief Safdar Nagori’s arrest in March this year gave another pointer of Goa being on the hitlist of terror outfits. Keeping Goa as the target, Simi held a training camp at Karnataka’s Castle Rock, which is 80 km from Goa’s capital Panaji. Sources revealed that Nasir participated in the training camp.

Last year, American security forces in Iraq had recovered a laptop from insurgents which contained photographs of Goa.

The US agencies claimed that the recoveries were part of busting of an Al Qaeda module.

This information was passed on to Indian authorities.
