I'm also going back to Goa this year but alone this time. Not lucky enough to get Xmas off but going the 6th december for two weeks.
I am really struggling to find single accomodation and want to be Baga/Calungute area.... has anyone had any luck yet? I can get the flight and am tempted to try my luck once I get there. Or is it worth taking the package for the Dormhouse (very cheap) and then finding somewhere? All help gratefully received!! Tania

Goa attracts 100,000s of people during the holiday season, both indian, western, and asian tourists. The beaches get hectic and very crowded. Its a total SCENE, fun, frustrating, exasperating, incredible, like no where else in the world during the holiday season. Many great people and some rotten apples of course. I was there Christmas thru New Years weeks 2007-2008 and had the time of my life. The era of the free flying jungle goa psy-trance raves is over. Its much more organized at clubs like West End, Curlies, and Hill Top, or the really establishment clubs in Calengute southward. I did attend one jungle style beach rave in Arambol during New Years week, that got broken up at 2 AM by a truck load of police swinging their lathi canes. hahahaha so friggin memorable... |

In the West we are so "time bound" and "schedule based" in Goa there are Sooooo many hotels now, that even during the holiday season you will find a place. Land there and shop around. I'd personally say get out of Baga/Calungute asap. Anjuna or Vagator is so much quieter and "in the action" even during the holiday season. You will feel as crowded as being in Mumbai if you stay in Baga/Calungute. I go off the train in Goa 4 days before X-Mas without a hotel and found my perfect spot without any trouble. |

Will be there on this new year's eve with my girlfriend, again a reasonably priced accomodation seems to be the big problem. The quotes I am getting are hugely over our budget!
One more thing, I am an Indian guy while my girlfriend is white. Will staying together be a problem in the hotels in Goa? Sorry if I sound stupid but we have faced this issue occassionally up north and have never been in that part of the country. Cheers, Shamik

Just turn up - you will always find accomodation if you ask around. I arrived Arambol new year 2008 and had a room for less than 300 rp by lunch ...

I think a lot of people would just like to "just turn up"...
but when you read things like this: - "You're never find a place under 1000 during peak season" - I've seen a few, and I assume there are many more if you don't mind sharing a bathroom and not having hot water. I'm sure I'd have no problem finding a place or if my budget was 2000 - 3000. - "Book as soon as possible" - the problem with this is many hotels ask for advance payment, some 100%. Making it difficult to change your plans, also what if you don't like the place, then you're stuck. Booking so far ahead seems crazy if you're not quite sure which beach you want to go to. The best situation would be able to reserve, then pay a min. deposit the week before... besides if it is high season the hotel should have no problem renting a room anyway? and the debate continues.. |

Majority of accomodation will not appear on the net - so don't despair. Hot water in Goa isn't really necessary either ...

My friend and I are visiting Goa this december. You may contact us if you need info about Goa. We are young and like to party 24/7 so I don't if you would like to do the same thing. We were looking for a someone from US or UK who is visiting Goa during the same time period because it is safer if you are in big group and have similar mind. [commercial link removed. India!
I'm gonna be in India and traveling alone from dec4 until jan7. Its my first time to India. I'm traveling alone but it would be cool to meet up with other solo travelers. I don't have a set itinerary, but I keep hearing Goa is a good place to be for New Years ever so it looks like I'm gonna have to head south from Mumbai first then loop back up.
I am new to this site as well so I'm not sure how it all works but anyone who may want to collaborate ...... let me know. SajnaniH at Gmail dot com Last edited by Aishah : Oct 11th, 2008 at 09:38. Reason: Formatting email address so as not to invite advertisers etc. |

I keep reading conflicting advice about whether to pre-book too! It'd be annoying to book somewhere but find when we arrive that it's really too quiet/hectic an area for us, but then being stuck without nothing would be awful! For New Year's Eve at least we'd like somewhere fun with some good electronic music, but I'm finding it hard to imagine what Goa might have to offer. |

You may have to pay more arriving last min. like that, but I'm sure somebody in Goa will be willing to accept your money, instead of having an empty room. |
