Goa....long term
I have decided...I will go to Goa for 6 months to do voluntary work.
I plan to reside in the Baga/Candolim/Calangute area. I feel that 20000 Rupees per month will suffice for a single guy. Total including my rent, utilities and leisure? It will be good to go out every now and then and travel to other parts of India. I have seen very cheap flights to Mumbai etc...anyway as I say 20k (Rupees) per month? Cheersio |

20K/month is OK as long as you have no medical emergencies! That surely takes a big bite out.

With 6 months and a limited budget, you should consider train travel, especially when you consider getting to/from the airports.
In takes under 8 hours to get from Thivim train station to Mumbai on the Jan-Shatabdi train and costs Rs 187 for a bookable 2nd class seat or Rs 640 for air con chair class, it's a very scenic route as well. Others opt to do the slower overnight journey taking 11 hours, this costs Rs 276 in Sleeper Class (not air con) and Rs 748 in 3-tier air con. These journeys take a couple of hours longer during the monsoon timetable period (10th June till 31st October), but the journey is fantastic at this time with hundreds of waterfalls along the route. |

I guess the major expense would be on accomodations, try and strike out a good deal on it..

I have seen most places under 15000 Rupees. I will be in Goa for the whole time but will pop up to Mumbai, Delhi etc to see the places. My main work will be voluntary in Goa. Where I plan to rent an apartment for the 6 months. NOT a tourist villa though that will be 20000 or more lol. Shall I say 200000 Rupees for the whole 6 months or is that too much?...sounds a lot! Like it has already been mentioned I will use trains. I can imagine the scenery along the way and me getting scammed ! I will use the bus around Goa. Scary stuff at first but I will adjust I am sure! |

I can't take malaria tablets for 6 months on end! I have had all the relevant injections. Well apart from Rabies and the Monkey one! |

It will depend on what time of the year you will be here. you can rent an apartment with kitchen for 10000 per month. I have heard lots of different prices for places from 5000 to 25000 per month for a 1 bed.
where will you be doing your voluntary work? try to get somewhere round that area? |

Medical expenses shud not concern you a lot, because there is a huge difference between and west and India on this one..
it would be a lot cheaper here... and about the accomodation...even though I have not much Idea about Goa..but Rs.15000 per month on budget travel..does seem to be expensive... |
