Goa Itenary - Palolem Places to Stay
Hi,
First my profile. I am normally an "Off the beaten Tracks" Person. I'm from Delhi and Normally I travel to the mountains and am the adventurous kinds. I have Driven From Manali To Leh Myself Twice and have been on a number of trecks in the mountains. For Relaxing Holidays i would like a place like Nagar or Vashist in Himachal. This time I'm planning to fly to Goa on the 29th of Oct for a week's Holiday. I just want to just relax in a quiet Beach, have good continental food at the shacks on the beach. I want to be in a moderately lively place (Not too Deserted, Neither too many Drunks Tourists) as i am travelling with my Wife , My Mother (Aged 71) and a little kid. But i don't mind being around people from anywhere in the world. It's great to interact with people from other places on holidays. I need ideas for 2-3 places in Goa for 2-3 Days each. If somebody could recommend places with Phone Numbers it would be really helpful. I've narrowed down Palolem (It's also called Polem ? Right) as the place to start off and have as my base. Would it be the right kind of "Off the Beaten Track " place for me ? How long would it take to drive from the Airport to Palolem by a Cab ? What is the Distance ? How much would it cost ? I'd like to call and book a hotel in Advance...could anybody help me with numbers of Bhau Cotteges. I hope i get some quick replies as i just have a week to go. Styler.. |

Polem is a different beach!
It's the most southern beach in Goa. Very quiet with no people. Only a few people from Karnataka who go there to drink cheap alcohol as it's a few km. from the border. try this site. www.palolem.com |

Hi styler, Bhau cottages is under new managment but I guess the Tel number is still the same!!
Here it is 0832-2643611. Another beach place you might try is Agonda, a welcome break after frenetic Palolem (that's Palolem by the way Polem is another beach on the Karantaka border which remains undeveloped) Agonda is a gentler more laid back kind of place with a lovely beach and lots of good Jungle walks if you feel like it!! Can't help you with any phone numbers just turn up you'll get something!! From the airport to Palolem it's about 1 hour 30 minutes and will cost around 800Rps in a prepaid taxi. If you go outside the small airport you might find a taxi driver from Palolem who'll do it for 4-500 Agonda is only 8 Kms from Palolem along a very quiet scenic road through the paddies Cashewnut Plantations and Jungle!! For a nice day out take a taxi up to Cabo De Rama an old fort built By the Portugues. For traditional Goan Breakfast try the Hira Restaurant (on your right heading out of Palolem just before the road takes a 90 degree left!! or Krishnas place at the top of the market/beach road the AA both places do fantastic Paw Bhaji For some of the best Indian food you'll need to get out of Palolem itself the Mangalore restaurant on the NH17 does good honest North India food, coming out of Palolem take a left onto the main Margao road it's just up the hill about 150 meters on the right. In Chaudi (next village) there's a Udipi restaurant which does good Thalis, dosas and samosas! In Agonda try the fish curry rice at Doris's lovely jubbly if you can get in it's just a small place!! Palolem itself has a wealth of great restaurants but IMHO isn't that good for India cusine however Italian, Mexican, and typical western fare abound, For good Honest food in a laid back atmosphere try my mate Ashwin in the Sun N Moon (on the roadside, there are two) He does awsome Shark and King fish and his Chicken Sate and Veg makinwala are MMmmm as is the rest of the menu. on the beach my fav is Kate's reataurant on the south end of the beach great beef xacuti!! No doubt you'll find yout own favourites thers upwards of 150 places to choose from!! I hope that has helped feel free to PM me if you need any more info!! |

I stayed at Tony Cottages tel 0832-2643436 by the beach. The restaurant on the left Restaurant Dropadi had the best food in my opinion.

I just checked the Maps again to reconfirm. Palolem , Arambol are in Extreme North of Goa, and close to each other. Refer to the maps attached... The one on the right will be a little zoomed i hope Last edited by Styler : Nov 5th, 2005 at 20:12. |

Indiafan confused me a little by saying it was in the south. It becomes clear from the maps. Palolem and Arambol are on the extreme north. GoanCanuck says that Arambol is 92 kms from Palolem. That can't be correct ?? They both seem to be pretty close , and in North of Goa... |

hey i just got back from palolem today.
this place is fantastic. i think it would be alright to go there with family.i did see a lotta kids and family ppl there this time, making sand castles n just sipping on their drink on the beach. i stayed at neptunes point which ws in a secluded location to the south of the beach, it may not be very reecommened if ur with family coz its a lil secluded, great for couples though.. for family i think ciarans camp was well suited.u can call or email john.we ate there once, very nice food and served well.website: www.ciarans.com we even checked out bhakti kutir was quite peaceful and good for families their tel nos are (0832) 2643472 and email : bhaktikutir@yahoo.com have a great stay.its simply a beautiful beach.i loved it. |
