GOA, It's not all nice!
GOA, It's not all nice,,,,,,,,,,,
As it's the time of year when many people are heading for Goa & alot of them first timers, not only to Goa but India in general, I'm thinking a timely warning might be appropriate. You've read all the recent threads about Trance Parties, Acid /Drugs, Music & generally having a good time in Paradise. theres also the other side,,,,,, Please people be aware of the fact that Goa has a big reputation for attracting young free & single people, consequently it also attracts the bad guys who would like to rip you off in various ways, I'm talking both of westerners & Indians, from the straight forward thieves & tricksters who finance there lifestyles by stealing from tourists, to people who given the chance will spike your food or drinks for the purpose of robbery or worse. These things do happen every year. Yes I know it can happen anywhere, but in Goa all these elements come together, Drugs, Fun Times, Carefree People, Holiday Mode. etc Be Aware people & Happy Travelling |

Apologies to everyone for being so rude, but the more I read on this forum about Goa, the more I wish most of you would find another place on the planet to abuse, preferably in your own damned country.
Sorry, just had to let off some steam... |

Some people have never been, so surely a timely reminder about what can & does happen there doesn't go a miss. Forwarning people of the negatives of a place is just as useful as the positives,,,,,,,,,,,,, It's a real world out there, Enjoy It. |

70´s Good Post.
I think its wise to say DRUGS are verry much Illigal in GOA. Having that said. There is ALLOT of drugs in Goa. Allot of people smoking the old chillum etc. It´s not Uncommon for the police to BUST you in the middle of the night and ask you for a Hefty amoutn of money (If you have something on you). And there are quite a feaw Westerns doing JAILTIME in India for drugrelated matters. Acctually your allot Safer doing drugs anywhere in the western worlt than in GOA I think.... BE CAREFUL! Its not bloody worth it getting yourselves in to trouble!

My warning is really ment for the people who are going to goa for the first time and who haven't had any or very little experience of drugs.
Gone (hopefully) are the days when someone would put a lot of acid into a well & spike everyones drinking water, but it did happen & the people who experienced the worst trips were the ones who were'nt really into drugs as they didn't know what was wrong with themselves. They got paronoid about everything, suffered hell & if it hadn't been for good people caring for them for as long as was necessary then I don't thinkas many as did would have made it through. These days it's more of spiking your drinks with date/rape drugs or just to generally knock you out whilst you're robbed,,,,,,,,,,,,,, |

Be cautious when having fun..
senties hippee,
I think this is a great post and timely too.. As ikurus stated, just beause its easy to get drugs in india, does not mean its legal or safe.. Plus unlike other western countries, the justice system ranges from pretty bad to very bad. So don't get caught doing anything illegal. The same justice system applies if you are harrased or robbed -- there is really no one to turn to. Keep these in mind, be cautious and have fun.. Unfortunately, being cautious and having fun do not go hand in hand... |

Maybe I'm a prude, but when I'm in another country, the thought of doing something illegal doesn't tempt me especial doing drugs. If I were caught and something serious happened, whose to say my gov't would help (they probably wouldn't). I'd rather not spend the rest of my vaction (and possibly life) in some jail cell god knows where.
You can still have an amazing time without drugs, but maybe thats what going to Goa is (was) all about. Really makes it seem like I'm a downer... Oh well. |

If you've never travelled before then these warnings are good advice. Our younger friends are maybe not so streetwise. These things happen all over the world.
That was my biggest fear when my daughter first went travelling. It's easy to miss the warning signs and get sucked in to some scam or worse. I know from friends and work colleagues who've been caught in scams while abroad. Just try and think twice rather than jump into a situation that looks too good to be true. Keep your wits about you and you'll be OK ![]()

Sad to say it is true that drink spiking goes on. When I was in Anjuna only a month ago one of three English girls I met had that happen to her. She'd been talking to a local guy at Paradiso and according to her friends one minute she was fine, the next, barely conscious. They managed to get her back to the hotel and she came to a few hours later. I reckon stick to bottled drinks and never let go of it. No need to be paranoid, just cautious.
