Y'know... I came away from my time at Goa with mixed feelings.
I think it was largely my own fault, and the crowd I traveled with.

Goa can be made boring. Get stuck in Sitting on the Beach mode, or by the pool, and just eating and drinking.
I made the major, major mistake of staying in an expensive resort, which apart from the cost just wasn't my style at all.

Goa needs you to be light of foot and willing to escape the obvious traps.

I think the more luxurious your hotel the less people you meet.

fortunately, anyone who finds themselves bored on Goa is only a few hours away from the rest of India- which has been called many, many things, but I have never heard the B word used to describe it!
even better, Goa is well located to go either north, south or east into the subcontinent. This time of year, S is the obvious choice, but you can't go wrong in any direction when it comes to relieving boredom.
HINT- you'll prolly find the other beaches boring too, so head inland

Goa is tamdi bhaji, coconut pancakes, the odd glass of poison(oops I mean't feni) at sunset, sunsets after an odd glass of feni(oops I mean't poison), women in colorful dresses, old portuguese architecture, Saint Francis Xaviers bones, a little casino action, sea and sand, fleamarkets, etc. etc. etc. nothing at all boring about it .... some Indians still do not consider it a part of India though - Oh well that's life.

Different Strokes for Different Folks - I Suppose.

Personally I thought it was pretty good.

You can Relax - You can Explore - You can Party

I managed to do all 3 - would have definetly liked more time.
maybe next time I may do goa first and kerala second.

True to say that I don't get out and about much anyway, but Goa isn't even on my list of other parts of India I want to see one day.

And there's such a vast amount of India that leaving a place or too off the list isn't really any big deal!

Goa has changed a great deal (many Goans would say Goa is not Goa any more). Prior to sometime in the 60s there was no airport and it took over 24 hours to go from Mumbai to Goa. Most Goan residents were native Goans and most visitors to Goa were Goan diaspora. There were no bridges (only ferries). And there was plenty of susehgad! (loosely translated as complete relaxation). No one lay on the beach in the daytime even in Calangute (It was too hot and sunny and everyone was tanned enough). And there was essentially no indoor plumbing. My first visit to Goa was in 1966 and it was just beginning to change. My parents remarked that they would have known almost everyone on the beach in Calangute.

I have been to Goa in both summer and winter and I must say I prefer summer. Will be going there in August. My parents dissuade me from visiting in December (say it is too crowded) and I have to agree. I am curious to experience the monsoon. My fondest memories are eating sheet kori (rice and fish curry) at local dives, speaking Konkani and dancing at church socials.
