Goa in mid august...

I'll be visiting a few cities/relatives in India around late july/august, but I'm considering squeezing in 4-5 days in Goa around the 10th-15th of August. Any suggestions on where to stay (I'm looking to get in some beach time, make friends and party a bit) and things to watch out for?

If anyone's in Goa around then, we should meet up for a drink...

S

Ahh, my friend, in Goa, especially in the south, the most little friends you will find are mosquitoes and other insectivo offensivo. Could you not come in September /October.
I would be the only insecto innofensivo that you would find there. (Have to try the old Portugese lingo) as it is Goa.
I fear alas, you will have few replies on this one.

‘When Goa sleeps. India weeps'. would sound poetic. The truth is:

‘When Goa sleeps, the rest of the world gets on with life'
.....Me.....

Globe trotter, Goa will be in the midst of the monsoons that last from June to September. I believe none of the beach shacks will even be around.

Globe Trotter,

I disagree with the above posts - yes, agreed it is monsoon at that time - but it doesn't rain continuously - in fact the weather's very nice around this time.
It's also true that not as many places are open during this season - but not everything is shut either - and since 15th Aug is independence day, you have a lot of events around this time. I say this cos I went during this time period last yr and had a blast - so much so that I've planned to go around the same time this year
I will say this though - if you want to stay somewhere which is a bit lively - I recommend staying in the north (Baga /Calangute).
As for places to stay - there are loads - depends on ur budget - but I'd advise reading up some reviews on the Web (this website has a lot of recommendations).

Thanks for the replies guys. I've heard Goa's paradise in the fall-winter (sept-feb), but unfortunately mid august is the only time I can make it.
I'll take a look at places in Baga/calangute...something cheap but not ghetto, close the beach and hopefully with other people my age around. Can anyone recommend a hotel or property to stay at, a preferred beach? or even somewhere to chill out and have some drinks with a few other travelers?

Lubu13, if you're around Goa around the early-mid august period, let me know. And I noticed you're from Bangalore...well, I'm actually in Bangalore for a week visiting my relatives in the first week of aug and then I plan on heading to Goa.

About the insecto inofensivo...I guess I'll just have to take a can of bug repellant.
