Goa in June

A friend of mine and I are going to Goa in June. How would you say the weather is during this month? Do many restaurants and shops close down during off season?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but Goa in June will be like a ghost town with the sea most likely off limits due to heavy seas
The weather will as hot as hell and power outages will be a feature as storms bring down power lines!!

There will still be a few places open but the bulk of camps and restaurants will be closing or already closed!!

I suggest get a couple of scooters and explore inland!!

No, you are not a bearer! We have been to Goa a couple of times but never during the monsoon period! How much would you estimate the temperature to be?

And! Does anyone know if George's (restaurant) next to the Church of the Immaculate Conception closes down during the monsoon?

Hi diplomacy,
As fas as I know, Georges is not closed during monsoon. Suggest you check out the monsoon in Goa. If the temperature becomes untolerable, check out Amboli, the nearest Hill station. It is around 120 kms from Panaji. Its awesome in monsoon with all the waterfalls and all.
You can also visit doodhsagar in Goa during monsoon. It will be at its best. The downpour in Goa is worth experiencing as it rains for as long as 4 or 5 days CONTINUOSLY.

The will be in the high 30s to low 40s, but it's the humidity that's the killer at this time of year!!

Amboli is a welcome escape from the worst of the heat!!

Amboli, never heard of that place before. Where exactly is it? Last time we went to the Tiracol Fort. Fantastic views! Although, it did take some time to get there but it was worth it!

4 to 5 days continuosly, that'll be something to experience! Better to bring with me a rain jacket then!

I hope the restaurant doesn't close during the monsoon period. A friend of mine works there and we have lost contact. We exchanged a couple of emails but then all of the sudden he disappeared.

Supposingly, there aren't too many tourists in Goa during this time then?

Amboli is Just over the Border in Maharashtra, it's a small hill station with great views over the western ghats!!

There arent many tourists in June in Goa yeah!
Buy a raincoat in Goa. One in Panaji Market will cost you approx 300 rupees and will last the season. Because anything that you carry and is not made for the Goan monsoon will be spoilt.
Amboli....yesssssssss! There are no direct buses to amboli. Catch a Bus from panaji bus station that stops at sawanwadi. there is ample transport from sawantwadi to amboli(30 kms). There are around 7 points in Amboli worth visting. Be sure to go there this time. If a restaurant is not on a beach there are 90% chances it wont be closed in monsoon. I suggest you can take a chance.

I was in Goa last monsoon, and it was fantastic. We did a bike trip from north goa to south goa in the rains and it was amazing. Its a different goa altogether. U dont get ripped, the beaches are clean and lots of rains.
Dont miss it.

We were also in Goa last monsoon, but in September...there was definately alot closed, but for shopping, we just went to Panjim as everything is opened there...I found it very refreshing with the rain and didn't mind it all all...

I don't think it would be good for a first time visitor, but it suited us fine.

We also went to Wildernest Resort for 2 nights and that was a really fun experience...

The plus side...we spent way less money as our hotel was less expensive...plus with the markets being closed we didn't shop that much..

I was thinking about going to Goa in June also. Around the middle or end of the month. But i was told it will rain aprox. 4-5 hours a day and not 4-5 days in a row?!
So with 4-5 hours rainfall their will be enough time left to explore the hinterland and also going to the beach.
I would love to spend the rainfall in a bungalow at the beach watching the power of nature and then enjoy the culture of Goa.
Or am i now completely wrong and that would not be possible?

Rubsen, June would be the onset of the monsoon season in Goa.You will get great discounts if you do plan to stay there during that time.

Depends on various factors. At times it can rain for 3 days continuously. The other thing you need to keep in mind is that the rain is accompanied by very strong winds which invariably causes power outages. These power outages can be for a few hours and at times can be for over 24 hours!

Monsoon time in Goa is also famous for plenty of mosquitoes and flies. So go prepared. The sea is very rough during the monsoon.

Didnt intend to swim in the sea during monsoon

My imagination was to sit in a bungalow atthe beach, watching the power of nature, seeing Goa becoming green and enjoy not so crowded cities. And i actually like rain (okay not all day long but some hours rainfall is no problem).
The question is: will there be any bungalows open at the beaches at this time?

I will also be traveling to Goa in June (9th-12th). I know that it's not the most ideal time to enjoy the beach, but it was the only time that worked...What beach do you suggest visiting? I would usually avoid the tourist traps of Calangute, Sinquerim etc, but am worried if we go further south to Palolem it will be pretty deserted and not much fun. We were originally thinking of staying at a nice resort because we could get such a good deal during this time, but it seems they are mostly around Calangute...

Ps. We are two girls traveling alone, if that affects your recommendations at all....
