You may look up on the net for vacation rentals in Goa. A lot of people offer their apartments for rent and you can strike a good bargain with them.

Is that your personal experience?

Only asking as most people post on here that on-line properties are very expensive and the best route is to turn up and ask around.

Also please note this person is;
a)only seeking a room, unlikely to be found on-line
b)coming April/May when almost all rooms will be empty anyway.

Like J5 said, the best deals can be had only by asking around once you are there. So book a hotel room for a night or two online and then look for a long term apartment. April is already a lean period so you would have plenty of choices.
There are also some service apartments available. here is one that was recommended by Goancanuck (one of the respected and knowledgeable IMer) sometime back and it was priced quite reasonably. I have no personal experience of this place, but I guess it would give you some idea of what you can expect. Typically the longer the stay the lower the rate. But try to bargain hard.

Quite correct, but any mention of "the season" will get you jumped on by certain members on here. (God knows why), however..........

With domestic tourists becoming so much more plentiful in Goa these days, and April/May being their "summer holiday" period, maybe more of the tourism businesses will stay open?

All those that specialise in ripping-off foreigners will probably close, such as most restaurants/bars/shacks/Kashmiri emporia/leather shops/etc, but thats probably not such a bad thing?

From personal experience of spending those months in Goa, though, it did feel like a hot, sticky ghost town, and I hated it.

Last April was very hot, but this year the weather so far has been much cooler (hotter today!) - so April could also be better. Some places close down but last year there were quite a few still open for at least the first two or three weeks of April.

Goa will be very hot in april. I am going mid march and even that will hot but I am told tolerable.
Accomodation will best arranged when you get there but I stayed 4 years ago in Mapuca Gtdc hostel for 4 with breakfast and evening meal for £14 [ but in Rs.].Basic with ac but acceptable.
Prices might be twice now with inflation.
