Hi folks,
I'm looking for suggestions about where to go in Goa for an oldish fogey like me. I'm 43, like company but am not into partying and boozing. I don't want to be in a 'party central' area, neither do I want to be in an area full of package tourists. I want beach bars where I can hear the waves, not pounding techno. Also I'd like to stay inland maybe a homestay on a farm or in the hills, also maybe in a little interesting town. I like animals and birds and cultural stuff. I want to plan a three week trip for Jan/Feb. I'll probably be travelling on my own but I'm not overly bothered about that. So suggestions are very welcome! Cheers! ![]() |

From a really old fogey
My only visit to Goa was when I was 59 and that was several years ago. Stayed a few days in each of Baga and Palolem. Palolem was very beautiful. Baga was buzzing but the problem was not the noise but the heat, even in November.
Would love to revisit Goa to see the old churches and re-experience the southern beaches. |

Here's a birdwatcher's log on Goa that I found not long ago - you might take note of the locations/accommodations that are mentioned - as birders tend to flock to the more reserved locales.

Hi Selkie (hmmm...oldish fogey, 43? You're not even half way!). Anyway, last November I was in Calangute and Palolem, enjoyed both, that time neither of them had much partying going on, nor were full of package tourists. But Palolem was more relaxed, beautiful beach, spent a few evenings sitting in beach bars/restaurants, indeed just listening to the waves, with a nice cold Kingfisher and an occasional chat with other tourists. Don't know what it will be like in Jan/Feb., but think Palolem will be your best option. Make a boat trip in the morning to spot dolphins, it's really nice (I saw many, one time even very near the beach). Stayed at a small hotel in Patnem, the Sea View Hotel (no sea to see though ;-), it's more inland). It has nice, clean rooms, kind staff, and a good restaurant.
Enjoy! |

If 43 is "old fogey" then I must be ready for the assisted living home ... but really, there must be at least one more visit to India in me somewhere....

My dad visited the US last year from India when he was 83 (and he and my mother travel independently). You have many more visit left! |

We've forgotten to answer the OP's original question and just got fixated on how old we all are (I'm not confessing at this stage, but def older than the OP).
![]() I would vote for Agonda. No package tourists, mixed ages but predominantly older rather than younger, definitely no techno and plenty of wave noises. |

We're in 60's and visited Agonda and Benaulim last year and enjoyed it so much we'll be back in Feb. Recommend Camilson's and Mahnamahna's . A rented motorbike is great for cruisin' too.

Thank you Sue and Tomkat for the Agonda suggestion - that is what I was hoping for from this thread! Sorry if I caused the rest of you to examine your fogeyness!!

I'll be in Agonda for a week or so in January, myself. I'm a mere babe of 26, but if you think you can handle it, I would be happy to push your wheelchair and remind you to take your pills if our visits happen to line up.
