Goa isn't much different than a hundred places like it all over the world. Wanna find one of 'em? Just ask a 20 sumthin "where's the party?"

i beg to differ! its been 10 years since i first discovered Goa and even though it has changed drastically over the last few years i am still very much in love with this place and honestly feel when someone is in love with either a place/person or anything else dear to their heart, mind and soul it will always stay special whatever the world says otherwise.
i never went there for the hype in the first place and havent been going year after year to check out cool, hip n happening places to hang out in,for me, Goa=

i haven't been back to goa since 1989 - the changes i saw then were enough to deter any further visits. far better to preserve my happy memories of the place.

Shaktipalooza, We went to Goa, and liked Benaulum vs Colva. My kids all got the runs here also. We stayed at Furtados, the plac next door to Furtados, and Rosarios. Have to say the garbage dump behind Furtados did us in and had to go to Benaulum.

Myself had a medical emergency on the train from Goa to Bangalore which has shortened my planned trip around to the south. I ended up having an ectopic pregnancy that ruptured on the train ( I lost 2L of blood)and ended up with emergency surgery in Bangalore at Mallya Hospital. I hear you about being not up to standard, but I survived and flew to Hyderbad to face some kidney complications which I will be changing hospitals before the next procedure. Coctors seem competent, but the cleanliness was just too disgusting. What is with the inability to CLEAN the bathroom? Have had 3-4 Iv's in the last two weeks and always ask for alcohol in a larger area than they swipe.
Hey I am alive and happy. The people we met on the train before the medical trauma were GEMS and helped with my 4 kids in terms of getting them to heir Dad in Hyderbad while I underwent surgery. The people here are amazing, even if they can't clean a toilet or have soap near the sink....

I love Goa..... some places have become too crowded but you still find places like colva which are less touristy..... I love the beaches in Goa and the old portugese houses and architecture, the churches and the food

haven't had the need to visit any hospital in Goa but mumbai is so close by that if you would need some big time surgery..... you will find big swanky hospitals that look like 5* hotels and have clean sparkling toilets..... i never step into a govt hospital and stick to private hospitals and they have never let me down..... i also never step into a NHS hospital in london coz they are also unclean and have MRSA bug etc ... stick to private clinics and hospitals and you should be fine

To get back to the original point of this thread, it sounds like you've been visiting some of the more built up, spoiled beaches.
There are still some that are not totally ruined yet.
Head more south and you'll find some. Some with nobody at all.

don't think I'd be worrying too much about Indian hospitals....

I'm sorry to hear about your son's illness, Shakti. Poor little guy! I hope he's on the mend.
