Goa cost of living

i want to move to some place with better weather to work on my online project. i saw many discussions here, but nobody tried to list all cost of living expenses of Goa (or listings are more than 2 years old)

i was wondering, what might be a cost of living in Goa right now, living medium-class life for 2 people. how much it costs to eat in medium-priced restaurant, and so on.

prices are changing fast, and the resources all over the internet are getting old fast.

i mean, what are yours cost of living if you live in Goa, or at least what do you think now it costs to live there.

Eat in a local/semi touristy cafe/restaurant in calangute and pay around 50 Rp for a large beer, about 60 Rp for a butter chicken and 15rp for rice or naan.
buy a samosa for 3 Rp
buy chicken baguette and chips for about 150 Rp in a tourist restaurant
coffee 7 rp in a local cafe or 10 times that in cafe coffee day
rent a 1 bed flat from about £100 a month, or my 2 bed for about 250

hope that gives you a taster

I dont know what your budget it or the lifestyle you lead but if you are not too lavish and after landing in goa hunt around a bit for the right place to live in then I guess you can comfortably live on 800-1000 euros a month (which would include eating out every day), if you cook at home you can get away with 500-800 euros.

1000 euro? that's how much i pay monthly right now, i'm in Poland. i eat out usually once sometimes twice a week. i drink a lot of beer i have apartment in the city centre - not my own, but i pay only utilities + other costs. and i can easly get by on 1000 euros, or usually less, on 800 euros. that's for 2 people.

if i need, i buy new electronics, i have pretty modern computer, big tv and so on.. i'm slowly starting to think, that living in another country won't be cheaper + i would have to give up some of the comforts i have here...

too bad

other people were quoting prices like 15 000 - 20 000 Rs , which is 220-290 euro.

i don't know what to think

Your basic costs/month for two people will be,

1 bedroom apartment near the beach - Rs 10,000(Rs 5,000 if you rent an apartment far from the beach)

Food and booze - Rs 8,000(all meals cooked at home)

Transportation(motorcycle rental) - Rs 4,000

Cellphone and Internet - Rs 1,000

Miscellaneous expenses - Rs 3,000

The prices that I am quoting are all updated for this year.

The best way to save money is to come early in the season and find somewhere cheap to live. You can get 2 bed apartments from 4000 a month if you search hard. OK mine isn't near the sea, it's actually on the outskirts of Mapusa, but it's got 2 balconies (one huge!), 2 bedrooms, huge living room, to toilets/showers, large kitchen and I pay 4250 plue electrictiy which is about 125 Rs a month. For transport then the bus is cheapest! - petrol prices are ging up here and although motorbikes are really convientant not as cheap as the bus (if you get a bike then you'll neeed an international driving licence.

I've been doing a similar costing thing for our volunteers, as many have no clue about costs, it's on a hidden page on our website at the moment called Volunteer-Costs.htm if you can find it.

Thanks

Rob

i don't know what to think

Look as I said in my earlier message , I don’t know what is your lifestyle and what are your expectations from the goa trip, the 800-1000 Euro budget is for a comfortable living at the city centre. Recently on britishexpats site someone quoted his rent in goa to be a 1000 dollars a month, he is going to be living in upmarket apartments built by the Tata Group.
If you are ready to live a simple life, rent is going to be your biggest component of expenditure and as I had said earlier if you come early and hunt for a place you could get a good deal ‘Goacanuck’s estimates are quite good. Of course variations can be large. You need to keep in mind that a meal can come for as little as 30 rupees and go upto 5000 rupees in a 5 star hotel. Anyone who quoted 200 or so euro was perhaps talking about only the rent component. All things included – I presume you would do some sightseeing, sometimes take a taxi and sometimes eat out (note that Goacanuk's estimate include all meals at home) - my estimate for two people, middle class living, is around 500 euros at least. Best of luck.
