Goa Beach Huts?

I realize a similar thread addressed advance payments. I am okay with that, but emails have been very unprofessional.

Is anyone familiar with Camp San Francisco of the Getaway Beach Huts in Palolem, Goa?

I have asked three times for an address and I have yet to get it, but the contact wants 50% advance of 3000 RS per night. Details are very limited.

This from Dec 28 to Jan 1. If I just show up what are my chances of finding a place? I don't care where in Goa as long as it is by a beach and under $100 US per night for 2.

Thanks!

Don't pay this guy. That price is absurd and it is only because of gullible tourists from outside India does the owner of this place have the guts to demand it so shamelessly.

thanks GoanCanuk, that is what makes more sense but it is a shame if my accommodations fall through.

Does anyone have any experience with the above mentioned beach huts?

not that I really care that much, but why was the title of my post changed from 'Goa Beach Hut scam?' to 'Goa Beach Huts?'

There was a post from Machadinha asking why scam is in the title if I do not know what is going on myself.

I used the word scam as in the noun referring to "a fraudulent business scheme."

The situation certainly sounds like I could lose my money after being wired to an untraceable destination, hence a fraudulent business scheme.

I changed it around because there are threads entitled "scam" on a fairly regular basis where the contents do not make it clear at all that it is a scam, more like the poster asking if it might be so. Having been confirmed above in your cautiousness you were still asking about this gang implying that you'd like to stay there. In other words, we (the readers) do not know if it is a scam.

This is India.

Until you get to the high-end accommodation, booking through secure Internet option is limited.

It's therefore sad to see 'scam' in this type of hotel enquiry, and whilst we understand how the whole process can seem strange, when there are many, many such threads with the same kind of 'scam' title, it can give the wrong impression of the Goa hotel trade.

I do think that, at this budget level, the least you can expect is good communication and information.

Go somewhere else!

But Christmas/new year is a seller's market so far as the higher budget places in india are concerned...

There is a big difference between a scam and lousy service.

Thanks!

I stayed here and made the mistake of booking in advance.

Ended up paying 1500 rupees per night - some people I met were paying less than 500 - they didn't book in advance.

The owner - Gaspar Joseph Coutinho - asked me to wire half the money in advance - he honoured the booking - so it wasn't a scam.

Still, i learnt a valuable lesson, so I guess the money wasn't wasted.
