Goa at NYE: Vagator Vs Arambol

Hello there,

Im in a bit of a pickle trying to decide where to stay in Goa for ~3 weeks (starting Dec 14th) and after reading The Rough Guide I've decided between two: Vagator and Arambol. Vagator sees more lively but I'm not looking for an Ibiza holiday (although I do want to do a bit of partying) and I'm not sure if Arambol will be too quiet. Im going to be starting off here for a 6 month backpacking holiday and I was hoping to hook up with people along the way, and I'm worried that if I go to Arambol I wont meet anyone. Any suggestions?
Also, recommending a place to stay would be good so I can get it booked ASAP.

Thanks

Arambol is more long termers rather than people passing through
Its also much more quiet though many travel down for the parties

You'll still meet people, its just a bit slower laid back and well, stoned in Arambol

Both locations fill up fast but as long as you're not arriving on the 23 Dec you'll be fine though prices will be high.

Not sure about booking ahead ...never done it but people might be more informed on this

Check out the primrose cafe in vagator

Sounds like you'd enjoy the vibe of vagator and its not far from Anjuna
You'll also be able to have a baji breakie at the tree in Chapora

Arambol is amazing but not sure if it was my first time i would head there...Vagator has enough of a mix but it is very party orientated though no where near as full on as Anjuna ..

BTW the music is solely trance there is no house pop or anything else.
Its the home of Trance ...You'll love it

For less full on partying scene, sout Goa is nice especially Benaulim and Palolem

Cheers for the help, I think I'll go ahead with Vagator. I just wanted to make sure it wasnt as bad as Anjuna.

What about a place to stay? I was thinking of Julie Jolly, anyone got any experince of the place?

Hi Spiceweasel,
Yes for a first timer Vagator would be the best choice of the two. I think if you went straight to arambol you'd be wondering what the other areas ie vagator / anjuna were like & probably move down there sooner than later.
Vagator is more central for you, like it's only 20minutes walk over the headland to anjuna, which incidently isn't a 'bad place'. Likewise in the other direction it's a similar distance to chapora.
Theres plenty of places to stay, and like Bryan said you can check out a few once you get there, they won't all be full,,,,,,,,

You'll have a great time.

Thanks for the help, I'll try and post some photos while I'm out there. But in the mean time I'm off scuba diving in Mexico for 10 weeks in 16 hours!

Chapora village

Hi there , if you intend staying cheap and away from the noise yet closer to the party scene .. CHAPORA village is a better option . Jullie Jolly is good..they have lately renovated the place and should be a bit on the xpensive side ...and also jukie jolly is closer to the Hill top where all the action is and many a times the noise does not die down for as many as 3 to 4 days . avoid going to the parties on new years eve ..its tooooo crowded , very boisterous and a bad trip.. try going early mornings when the crowd generally filters . There is also some accmodation available @ the vagator beach .THE ITALIAN end of the beach . last year Charles Restaurant had a shack on rent ( very very basic) but with clean toilets . cheers and have fun
