Goa & Mumbai - Weather in October

Does anybody know how this year's monsoon is tracking i.e. early or late? I'm thinking of visiting Goa at the beginning of October and am trying to find out if I can expect sunny weather.

Also, does anybody know some good beaches to head for? I'm trying to avoid the Anjuna crew as well as package tourists. Just looking for a couple of weeks to relax.

Cheers
Lee

Both Goa and Bombay will be hot and humid... It's like the second summer in October after the monsoons...

Try out Baga, Betul, Bogmalo beaches In Goa for a change. The weather conditions would depend.

My wife & I were in both Mumbai & Goa , last October. The monsoon had broken & the weather was cceptable to us, but we come from Australia. We stayed at the Holiday In n in Goa, & the package tourists were not due for another month

Yep it's pretty hot and steamy in Goa around October, But the rains will be finished and there's always the Arabian sea to keep you cool!

I was in Goa in mid-October. It was quite warm and somewhat humid but completely comfortable for me (the ocean helped). There were hardly any other tourists and I often had the beaches to myself (Vagator and Anjuna). I too, was looking to avoid the beach crowds and was happy to find that I had done so. The only day that I saw crowds of tourists was at the Anjuna market, otherwise I was pretty much one of only a few people there in Oct. I also enjoyed my stay in Panjim, which I believe is not to be missed. I believe Oct. is a great time to travel

Is the monsoon completely finished by the end of September in Goa, then? I'm thinking of heading towards Arambol at the end of September / beginning of October. Don't mind heat / humidity but I'd prefer to miss the monsoon.

was there last year end of sept. for 10 days (palolem).
i think we had one really rainy day and night and some showers on about two other days. it was not too hot, below 30°C. not all the places were allready open but most of them. not too many people also, just enough not to feel lonely, enjoy

Sounds good to me. I'll gladly sacrifice a bit of the nicer weather for quiter beaches and no parties.

Thanks for the info.

One thing to keep in mind is that in Sept-Oct the weather is not only humid but there are lots of insects/moths which make their presence around sunset time. If you are going to be driving a scooter/motorcycle make sure you cover your eyes and mouth to avoid a very unpleasant experience.

Thanks GoanCanuck. Will bear that in mind.

I'm thinking of aiming to be in Arambol for the last week in September now. I like the idea of being there before lots of people arrive. Last time I was there it was end of March / beginning of April and although it was fiercely hot I loved it. The heat had frightened a lot of people off but the beach shacks got fewer and fewer by the day and the beach just got quieter and quieter. Very nice.

If the beginning of the season is similar it'll be ideal for me. Thanks for the info, everyone. Very helpful as always.

Can any weatherman predict weather 2 months in advance? As some of the other IMers have suggested you can check weather.com for historical averages (http://www.weather.com/activities/travel/businesstraveler/weather/climo-monthly-graph.html?locid=INXX0169&from =36hr_bottomnav_business). to give you an idea of what to expect. Although the rain charts for June, July and August are incorrect.
