Correct Andy, pre-paid to Calangute is now about rs1000......daft innit?
Count, How you doing Baba?
Didnt fail to say, just didnt think about it

Unless you have landed at Dabolim its impossible to imagine how remote it is so never thought someone would expect to rent bikes from there! A camel would be more appropriate

Sh*t, you forget just how "unique" Goa is......

Hi, Please ensure you book taxi from outside the airport. My experience last year as follows. There is a taxi booking office at the entrance inside the airport. I collected my bag from the belt and and turned around & went to the taxi office (within the glass entrance). I had to get to Baga and they told me a figure X. So I called my friend who had already stepped out, & told him the rate. He screamed at me to get out....
There was another booking cabin just outside the airport, just as you step out the glass entrance and walk about 5-7 steps... The price they quoted there was almost HALF of what the taxi office INSIDE the airport quoted.

So YES< the rates are printed on the board. But please ensure you book a taxi from the outside office. The inside guys rip you off, just because they are inside the airport..

I'll let you in on another little secret! Even the rates printed on the board outside are way too high! If you just walk past the board and the booth towards the exit gate, you can negotiate a better rate with the drivers/agents standing there.

Something unbelievable happened!! At the airport one of the taxi driver approached me and informed me that since the petrol prices have come down he has brought down the taxi rates. He would charge me 20 percent less since the petrol prices have come down by 20 percent and then....I woke up.

Tour Operator Coach vs Pre Paid Taxi?

My flight this year gets into Goa about 1:00AM (if it’s on time). I have always avoided the coaches laid on by the tour operator when arriving during the day time, heading straight to the taxi stand. I was led to believe that coaches have to go a different route than the taxi’s when heading to North Goa, something about coaches only being allowed over certain bridges when crossing the river; and that it can take almost 3 times longer in a coach to get to the Calangute/Baga area than in a car – this is before taking into consideration all the drop offs on the way. I’m in no hurry at that time of night/morning - but don’t fancy 3 hours on a coach after the 11 hour flight from the UK. Has anyone done the journey by coach? Does it really take that much longer? Will I even have a choice - are the taxi stands open late at night.

Thanks
Sue

There are taxis available at all times when flights are arriving.

From my experience the bus does not take that long to travel to North Goa, however I have used taxis for most of my journeys, it's easier and not that expensive.

I think once in 3 months, Zuari Bridge closes for 3 hours for routine deck inspection.
usually for 3 hours on Sunday from 7-10am or 6-9am. Other than this there should not be a problem.
I think all buses /coaches allowed on the Main Bridge talked above which is connection south-north Goa.

If I were you, I would take the coach for which you already paid as airport transfers or part of your tour package cost. Coach could be comparatively safer bearing in mind you flight lands in the middle of the night. Safe journey!

Thanks Guys, I think we'll try the coach for a change. Roads should be quieter.

Visited Goa last week.

Dont take the prepaid Taxi from inside the Goa airport (they are overcharging)

Use the prepaid booth just outside the Terminal. They charged us rs 1100 from the airport to baga beach, AC vehicle.
