Goa advice sought for early September
A thirty-something American couple is going to be in Goa for 3-4 days in early September and seeks advice from experienced travelers on a few basic decisions:
(0) My understanding of their likes and dislikes: They would enjoy beaches and quiet natural beauty, bicycling a few miles, and also city life, Portugese past, cafes, restaurants, etc. They would not like parties, dancing, loud music, drugs, and like. (1) What are the day- and night-time temperature and humidity likely to be? Is early September cool enough to do without a/c? (2) For such a short trip, is it wiser to book a hotel package, or simply stay at a hotel and do their own sightseeing? (3) Should they base themselves in one part of Goa for the entire duration? If so, should it be north, central or south? OR, would it be better to spend one night in each? (4) Whatever your advice concerning above, which hotels would you recommend? They require hot water, a/c rooms and possibly swimming pool, but it need not be five-star. Everything else being equal, they would prefer the experience of staying in an Indian hotel of some distinctive character rather than standard international chains. (5) One often hears that certain beaches, eg, Calangute, are overcrowded. Is that likely to be true in September as well? Or does it only apply to the high season? Thank you. Thanks Timmy. I am beginning to wonder if I should have broken up my post and made several, each with one question. But I'll wait a little before trying that route.
When and where are you going to become the "whitest person in India"? |

OK I wasn't going to admit it, but my Usenet alter ego suggested to akt's friends that they ask their questions on IM because you were so knowledgable and helpful. Akt has done it on their behalf. And now my (er, alter ego's) credibility is completely on the line. Bah! Now you've made me go and completely blow my cover.
May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits! |
