Machadinha - Thank you for your polite reply. My anger is not directed at anyone here I am just angry with what I see happening in Goa. I am sorry that you have not been able to visit Goa. I have been many times now and I must go in order to spend quality time with my God Children as they are unlikely to ever be able to visit me in the UK. Goa has changed - and sadly not for the better.
York Stiller if you feel I need "educating" on the finer points then feel free to do so but please do so in a polite and non patronising manner. One thing I was taught many years ago was that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. I may not be as knowledgable about these things as some people on here (which I have already said) but I also have more knowledge than others. As for reading the posts - I did, and have found them very interesting, informative and even amusing. I think this is now a case of "game over". |

Its funny- the way "SEZ" are seen as a "bad" thing. SEZ have always been around in India. All the SIPCOTs (thats the small industries promotions zones) etc are just that, special economic zones. The EPZs (Export processing Zones) also are the same. Now, with IT taking large chunks of the export pie, special economic zones that provide 5 year tax breaks have become a "bad" thing. strange. |

Fizzy... I think I'm pretty much with you so far as the point of view goes (others are entitled to theirs, though).
But whether you are on the side I agree with, or the side I also vehemently disagree with (just check out some of my posts on stuff like Walmart in India) I have to request that you put that point of view with less aggression, particularly against other individual members. Yes, I understand your strength of feeling. but...

Thank you also for your reply. If I came across aggressive I apologise however I did find some of the "asides" made by both yourself and York Stiller as rather patronising to forum users and this amounts to cyber bullying. I had hoped to join a friendly forum but perhaps your forum is just for the chosen "intelligent & know it all" types that are sometimes attracted to such forums and not for those of us who are passionate about current problems in Goa (and I don't mean the price of a beer). Thankyou but I shall now take my custom elsewhere and leave indiamike to those of you who think you know best.

As far as finding a forum friendlier than IM, well, best of luck.

Before you subscribed to this forum, I never knew I was only interested in the price of beer in Goa. When I visited the Mango House of childrenwalkingtall and gave them the raised funds from Germany, the cuddling toys and when I joined these charity people into the slums to teach the children, this must have been a dream. But as you wrote before, sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, right? And did it ever struck your mind, some people donīt make a big deal out of their doings? Things change, but not by talking, right? You announced a "Game Over" in a previous post. May I ask you, what kind of game you were writing about? The Indian game? The do-gooder game? Your personal game? However, at least Goa and itīs people were never a game for me, appararently different in your case based on your writing. But wait, not regrets and no new resentments, since you are too important for some children in Goa and surely make a good godfather, and thatīs truely meant by heart. I wish you all the love for them, you couldnīt come up with here in this Forum. Last but not least, sorry for my English. Iīm German, but adaptive. ![]() |

For me the relationship between not having an income and poverty was not complex. In my old barrio the issue of relative vs. absolute poverty was also crystal clear. It was obvious that people voted with their feet to move from being poor en Estados Unidas de Mexico to Estados Unidas en el norte! In short, better to be relatively "poor" in a rich country than absolutely poor in a poorer country (Mexico isn't poor compared to many Asian countries). Confusing absolute and relative poverty must be an anglo thing. That aside, here is a further news article..
