Ah, yes... All the fun of virtual contacts. Sit yourselves down with a handshake and a pack of playing cards, and even then things may go totally haywire as we all know

Don´t worry Nick, I guess someone´s gonna kick it back like Beckham to Dec 27th, 2007 and we sure start the topic all over again. That´s what I call irony in it´s finest.

Irony? I don't see anything ironic about poverty. And you really think that these SEZ's being permitted will prevent poverty? Get a life - look at the west - developed though we are ?????? (supposed to be) we still have poverty and it is increasing. I don't personally believe that this is the end of the SEZ issue, any new developments will go ahead on the strength of the baksheesh already paid (or find yourself buried upside down in the forest somewhere for not complying - Suing takes too long in India). In a fair and just world everyone has, and IMO should have equal opportunity or is this just another state of nirvana that is a downright bloody lie. CORRUPTION rules not just in Goa but in India generally and it is THIS (and it's so called abolished/illegal caste system) that keeps people poor and prevents progression. India has a fast growing economy at the expense of the poor and the prevention of SEZ's (if it happens - yeah right!) will, in the long term, also be at the expense of those most vulnerable in India's society. Oh, and by the way, I can't afford a cleaner or gardener either - but of course, I AM only working class AND I can't afford bribes.

fizzy2, I read your comment with all regards and I´m surely with your point of view, but there´s simply one thing left to say: What you gonna do about it?
My suggestion? File your at least one hundred pages answer and post it to the people in charge. As far as I know, they live somewhere in New-Delhi. Sorry, but that´s all left to say for me. |

WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST I DO? As far I see it there isn't a lot I as a tourist can do except get it off my chest here (or, as many tourists who are WELL INFORMED and CARE are now doing, stop visiting Goa) Damn frustrating though. However, it doesn't stop me having an opinion and as we are living in a democratic society (I think) also doesn't stop me from voicing my opinion. I am not a typical tourist who sits by the pool, drinking honeybee and I am not oblivious to what happens there. These things have an impact on the lives of many of the Goan friends for whom I care about and sorry (not really) it makes me angry. Joking and flippancy about what impacts on their lives makes me see red. I have already said I am not an expert in these matters; politics - particularly Indian politics - go over my head, I am just ruled by my heart.

Really? I never noticed tourists and expats at large (there will be exceptions, of course) being too picky about other places to visit where all may be far less hunky-dory. Think of Franco's Spain, to name but one destination and at that time (in fact that's when mass tourism there got going). There are many such others at this very moment.

@ fizzy2
It´s a great relief for me to understand that you apparently read none of my posts in this thread or in this forum. Otherwise I could not cope with your stir up trouble and apparent aggressions against all and everything you don´t seem to comprehend with in the first place. But this is Indiamike you´re on here. Always 2nd chance. ![]() |

Well I AM most humbly sorry if I haven't read ALL your posts. As a new member, It will obviously take me a while to catch up. However, if you read my post as aggressive, thats your problem, it wasn't meant to be. I however have found replies to my views rather unwelcoming, rude and patronising. This is a forum and I am entitled to an opinion whether you agree with them or not is up to you. It would also appear that you consider yourselves to be of intelligencia hierarchy and a bit "up yourself" - Get over it. No doubt I have now blown my "second chance".
but I am sure I can survive such a trauma. As for Spain, been there, done that and put it behind me - just don't relish Goa becoming a clone of a concrete Costa full of ex-pats. I thought that as you are discussing Goan issues on the Goa forum you felt the same but hey, I must have been mistaken. Have you actually been there? |

It's normally good custom to check out the scene a little on any given forum before diving in, let alone digging your heels in.
But, er, suit yourself. It's kind of like walking into a strange bar and making yourself loudly present, with all the consequences that may entail. Quote:
Anyway personal innuendos let alone outright attacks are not really the way to go and are in fact not allowed on this forum. Check also the site's Forum Rules, which you are explicitly requested to stick by. |
