Sawantwadi was the terminus for the Konkan RR for a year or so during construction and catching trains from there was organized somewhat with connecting busses from goa. AFAIK, this ended with the rr's completion and only the regular busses are operating -- quite frequent to Pernem (which is right on the Maharashtra border) and less frequently to Mapusa. sawantvadi road is only a couple of km from the town.
A taxi to/from station to Arambol should be around 250-350 rp depending on mode; m/c, 3wheeler, or car. There is a bus from Arambol which goes to Mapusa via Pernem roughly hourly during the day, and you have the connecting bus to sawantvadi from pernem town, before it continues on to NH17 and stops near Pernem rr station, then carries on to Thivim rr station junction (you need another bus, or taxi, for the 4-5km on to the station) before pulling into Mapusa. For now, just one night train and one day train stop in Pernem, but I think most, if not all, stop in Thivim now, including the rajdhani which formerly went direct from sawantvadi to madgaon -- this is not what is showing in my train guide, but i think this is what i was told by an agent -- the rr appears to be trying out different stops to gauge interest. probably some more schedule juggling coming up between the Jan Shatabi and the new 'bullet' train when it comes into service. |

hey guys,
i will come down to goa by konkan railway... want to go to arambol, so i would like to know where to get off? maybe there are local trains which stop at pernem or thivim. but for shure there will be fast trains which wont stop at the smaller stations... local trains would take more time but faster ones my not stop at the station i would like to (in case pernem)... so what to do? so whats the better way to get there? fast train, longer bus drive or local train shorter bus drive? where do fast trains usually stop at first in north goa? |

Like the above post says, you wanna get off at Pernem or Thivim. I know the morning train from Mumbai stops at Thivim in the evening, I did this last year. Plenty of taxis will take you to Arambol for around 300 roops.
See you there! |
