I'm getting a bit put off about taking my husband and son to goa-We already live by the beach in spain but I wanted to show them some tropical beaches like you see in the travel agencys but after reading about drunken people on beaches and people disapearing-I'm not too sure. We are not too young and are just looking for a quiet pretty place and maybe eat a lobster or two.We want to go about Jan or feb start from Delhi -Agra- etc and continue to the south(are there nice beaches in the south)if so we could maybe skip Goa - the only thing is we would miss the fish.Any advise? thankyou

Goa isn't the place to find those beaches, and I doubt you'll find them anywhere in mainland India.

Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, heck, most of SE Asia springs to mind.
But not India. Sorry. Them's the breaks. The beaches there just aren't that great, by some cruel stroke of nature that I don't quite understand (you'd expect a coral reef here and there, no?) (The Andamans or Lakshadweep Islands might suit your needs. The latter are said to be package-only and hence expensive.) (However, make no mistake Goa obviously has its sizeable share of dedicated followers. Depends what you're after I guess. Steve has been there. I haven't.) Diu isn't bad for a decent beach and a more relaxed experience if it still is btw (except on weekends and holidays when all of Gujarat flocks there to get plastered. A good time to get on your hired bicycle and explore this tiny island. Or to retreat to your room to finish that book you were reading.) If it beats say Mojácar I'm not so sure.

I have never been there, so can't offer any detail, but perhaps the Andaman Islands would be able to offer what you are looking for?

In europe everything is so materialistic- with so many buildings and cars and the beaches are too touristic

It's not soo bad in Goa, depends highly on the area you are planning to go. I could find some picture like tropical beaches there (and in Kerala, too).
Never been to Thailand, so can't compare. |

as we are going from delhi to the south we thought of stopping by goa -looking for places as nature made them and local indians to learn their ways.

Pallaloem (sp?) is pretty nice. I spent two weeks there at the start of december and the beach was nice and lots of nature around. Families seem to be plenty and there was only one night party (held once a week) at the far end of the beach which was pretty small by Goa night standards. We were meant to leave and head to north Goa but stayed on, we liked it so much.

I've been in Goa..didn't much care for it, but if you go a bit further south in Karnataka near Gokarna, both Om beach and Kudle beach are lovely and seem less touristy. I really enjoyed Kudle beach..it's quite close to Om beach. If you REALLy want off the beaten path a bit theres Paradise Beach, also nearby, but it's small huts seem to host a long term contingent of tanned stoners doing stoned yoga with their nekkid kids lounging in hammocks.
