OK. Don't want to perplex anybody, and since this thread has been going on for so long I'll chime in:
Going to Goa this weekend. I don't expect much more than sun and sand, but I'm going with a fellow adventurer and figured I'd get the lay of the land - in case we put clothes on.

I'll post back next week and let you know if Eden is still around, the fabled guest house with the rainbow flag, or any of the other Goa temptations.

Gay pride

Before my marriage (yes, with a man, we are four and a half year together now) I travelled three times in India, alone and not in search for a (sexual) relation. Being gay however did mean something, also there and then (between 2000 and 2003), for myself and for people I met. In many cases it was no issue, sometimes I even kept my mouth about it, which was not so very difficult for me because I am a father of two daughters (being born out of my relation with a lesbian woman, now 20 and 18 years ago, we still enjoy our decision every day; I actually will travel coming July three weeks with my youngest daughter through South India) and children not only pave many ways, but also keep people from wondering....Being a bachelor I felt free to have sexual encounters with other men when they explicitly asked for it, and we had quite some fun too. Alas Indian men are (have to be) much more inhibited regarding their homosexuality; that sometimes worried me, made me feel pity for them, even made me angry and so on. Maybe one may consider healthy honestly committed sexual relations between people of the same gender from visitors to India with the local people as one way of gay emancipation.

that's no different than the hetrosexual people in India. Public display of (any kind of) affection between adults is fwrowned upon by Indian society.

True when you are talking about public display, but that is not where I am referring to. Crossing that border and moving on to the more private circles is what I have in mind. Gay men (and women?) have to cross more than one barrier, it's a complete riff

Visiting Goa from March 7th till March 20th 2008

I'm also interested in visiting some gay bars/clubs/hangout places during my stay in Goa from march 7th till march 20th 2008. Would prefer to have some good company rather than going alone. Drop in a line if anyone would like to join me during that time!

Exclamation

May I advise all foreigners looking for homosexual favors in India, that it is highly illegal. It is strongly advised to follow local laws and be safe. Homosexuality is a punishable act in India under Section 377, which reads-:

Quote:
Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal, shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.
Have a safe trip in Goa.

(Sorry for this standardized response): New members do not have the PM (Private Messaging) function yet, neither to send nor receive. It takes a certain nr. of posts + period of membership.

You could create a free disposable webmail address for the purpose, then post it here. Or discuss what you need on the board. Be aware anyone could contact you on that address pretending to be the other. Posting your private email address is not advised, for all the obvious reasons.

Anyway I see Travis already provided the option to get in touch

I'll be at Goa from April 8th to 16th. It would be nice to meet other gay guys there. Even though I like to travel alone, the dinners and the bars are not the nicest place for single traveller

decriminalization of homosexuality

NEW DELHI: The Delhi HC has fixed next Thursday as the date for hearing the central government's stand on decriminalization of homosexuality.

That's interesting GC, the case had been pending for a decade or two, three, I believe, a very long time in any case. (It's been mentioned here before, but I wouldn't know where to find it back just like that.) At least I'm assuming this is the same case that's being referred to. That's pretty cool if some parties are not putting up with it any longer and pressing for a verdict now, btw. Or if I'm reading this correctly anyway; the intricacies of national or local politics are forever beyond me I'm afraid.
