Just adding, it seems to me that Goa is a very gay friendly place. I met two gay guys from the US and they told me that no one treats them differently. As to know which places are gay bars, I can't be quite sure but I think I saw someone mention GayBombay.org which is useful. According to my new Timeout Mumbai/Goa 2008, try www.salvationstar.com

kerala has a much more laid-back gay presence, not as in-your-face as in goa. depends on what one is looking for, i guess.
