Open air beach parties do not exist any more in Goa. They were great when they took place but that was back in the 90's. I know because I was there.
For New Years there are certain events/parties that take place but none of them are outdoors. All of them take place inside clubs. The entrance charge is usually around 1000 rupees. These days the party goers are mainly Indian men from outside Goa. You have to be careful of these guys since they are not interested in the music, only in "groping". Single white women are easy targets for them. |

(while im at it -- if you have any immediate suggesetions on inexpensive guest houses in Anjuna late december/new years - that'd be great. everything im looking at is booked!) thank you! |

yep, sorry ... Goa is not Thailand. The beach culture is very quiet, and the police see to that.

calangute is more towards commercial and package tourists, you can easily rent places in anjuna and arambul during those times, you just have to walk in to rent places in theses places during xmas and new years, i will be in goa during new years too.

Arambol is mainstream now, but many first timers thinking of going believe it is exotic and for "insiders" - it is in fact PACKED at Christmas and New Yesar. |

No it does not any longer. What takes place these days is just a money making racket. Charging 1000 bucks per person and extortionate pricing for an omelette. If you had gone to the parties in the mid-90`s then you will understand what I am talking about. Sorry I am not prepared to pay 70 rupees for a bottle of mineral water when I know the real price is much less. |
