thats what i want to say to the Indians- Your government and courts still want you, the people, to be censored! Knowing human and Indian nature though- this is impossible and will only be a temperory setback. Freedom will prevail- it is in the nature of humans to revolt agaisnst censorship. The courts and the government should both be able to take criticism- whether substantiated or unsubstantiated. Have you ever heard of the British, American or other western powers shutting down the personal blogs of their citizens? As for 'insulting' the court- western judges have learned to be more professional and judge the issue rather than view it from their personal egotistical holes! Westerners demand that their judges are also judged unlike in India. Regarding the blackmailing issue- Any right thinking person would agree if a politician was supposedly being blackmailed then it is a personal litigation issue between the politician and the tv channel, rather than all sting ops being subjected to scrutiny. I agree it is quite frightening for the average Indian to question his courts or politician for that matter. However, all this is vital to the further advancement of society in India. Equality , Liberty and Fraternity depend upon it and only then will revolutions be postponed or possibly even not needed.

So, All you have to do is wait on the sidelines and let them expose each other. They will do their own dirty work- Not a good enough excuse to investigate and possibly ban them! Not good enough at all!

From my reading of a newspaper article just now the worry is not so much that the target of the sting may be blackmailed: it is that the entire motive of the operation is financial.

The sting is set up, the victim falls, and the producer, tape in hand, then seeks the highest bidder to sell the tape to.

Where public interest is the motive, the courts are not objecting to journalism exposing wrong-doers.

In this sense the SC has said the motive should be examined.

Which is fair enough.

Although the fact that the politician/official got caught out at all says something about them, of course.
