What do you mean by "foreign fallout"?

The projected decline is due to the rising cot of fuel which has increased the airfare as far as charter flights are concerned.

There was a decline of slightly over 20% as far as domestic tourists are concerned for the months of April and May this year. The rising cost of air tickets on domestic routes has meant that fewer people from Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore are coming to Goa for holidays. Overall worldwide people are cutting back on discretionary expenditure.

I think this has got more to do scarlett kealing's case and later crackdown on drugs that was the life line of goa's attraction for western tourist rather than with fuel hike.

That maybe a small reason. But the main reason is value for money, which Goa isn't anymore. The hike in airfares and hotel rates is the overiding factor. The far east is giving better value for money now.

Die to the economic recession, the "fallout" is worldwide. All tourist destinations are seeing a slump. There are great deals being offered by packaged tour companies. I think lower cost destination will begin to pick up first.

Even for domestic tourists..... tour packages to SE Asia are quite cheap. I had seen some 3N/4D type of packages for 2 for as little as 40000. A weeks stay in Goa(with return fligts) for a couple in moderate luxery will cost abou the same.

Nayan the article is with regard to tourists coming from UK. and the extremely bad publicity Goa has had over the last few months.
The Visa situation is again this year turning into a fiasco.

It is such a pity as it used to be a peaceful relaxing and happy place, the people were so friendly. Yes, our local friends are still the same, but the rest of the traders are just out to fleece us.
We are really looking forward to returning at the end of the year for a few months, but we shall certainly not be spending like we have before.

IMHO, the Brits who go to Goa long term, regular as clock work are not overly interested in the air fares because they love the place, they are not on a 'limited' (within reason) budget & they are not there for just two weeks - the truth is that the MLAs etc have screwed up big time, they've viewed tourism as a spring to be stretched & they've pulled, pulled & pulled again until it's over sretched & it won't go back to where it was, a then they've tossed it all up in the air, blaming anyone except themselves!

Regards

I work in the travel industry.

Bookings are down in ALL charter holiday destinations. Big tour operators work from a Bed to seat arrangement. Unfortunatly not enough beds are being sold therefore flights are being dropped completly or are now double dropping for example MAN/LGW/GOA/LGW/MAN.

In resort excursion sales have dropped globally nearly 50% based on last year's figures, bigger tour operators not re-newing contracts for hoteliers who are refusing to take a drop in their contract rates.

It's all down to one thing - money. Bad news for everybody, including myself.

My theory is 20% of the luggage gets lost too.
But if it is true that 20% of the passengers are lost also, nobody ever notices? Because if it is the same 20% nobody files a claim.
