Somehow the restaurant MIX (on the Baga Arpora road, a bit before Club Cabana) has not featured yet. It is the opposite of vegetarian, in fact they do fantastic steak. Apparently. I personally do not eat meat but my carnivore friends rave about this place. Some say it is the best steak they ever had. I normally eat salad or fish, both which are very good and quite different from the box standard stuff you get elsewhere. The owner cooks himself!

In addition to good food, I like the place as well because they take good care of a bunch of stray dogs that hang around there :-). While not in itself a reason to eat there, I like it if I can spend my money at a place which does give a little back to the world instead of only lining the pockets of the owner.
The time will come when men will look upon the murder of animals as they look upon the murder of men.

Another plus for The Fishermans cove in Candolim. Also there, Rising Waves is worth a look but may have to book & try Viva Goa towards Calangute.

Pergola in Panjim, near Casa Dempo is a fantastic place for seafood. Lovely owners who are very nice and food which just makes you keep on going back there.

Also Carvalho's near Calangute beach [Or more like, on the way towards it?] has good steaks.

Cafe H2O next to Eatopia in Anjuna Village. Great place for breakfast and to hang out in general. The owner Victor and his whole family are one of the coolest people one could meet.

Newest Italian

The newest kid on the block is Ciao Bella in Assagao. A Eurochic Italian restaurant with very reasonable prices opened two months ago. Opening in the monsoon appears to be a good move as it is busy almost every evening. Delicious home made pastas and home made bread. The wines are reasonably priced and there are little free bites offered as well. How they can do it is beyond me .

All these are veg AND non-veg and this can be an issue for pure-veg diners with question marks on preparation areas {(and quite rightly so!)

They are also quite expensive and serious tourist traps.

Navtara is good, also in Mapusa and Margao, read the thread here;
Goa In Monsoons - September 2011 - Trip Report
and do a search on veg food.

Goa has plenty of vegetarian restaurants, and trustworthy dual-cuisine (non-touristy).

Its about 75 % of the populace are Hindu!

Just ask around amongst the locals, Catholic Goans will eat anything that had a pulse, whilst their Hindu bretheren are much more particular.

I know you asked for North Indian, but the examples you gave led me to this advice.......

Eggs and Paranthas (Calangute Food Street), Calangute near the Chapel. Open from 7 am till late. More than 30 egg items.
TinTin Bar and Restaurant, Vagator Beach Road. One of the best steaks in town. very good continental affair.
Wok n Roll, Fort Aguada Road. Fine southeast asian dining. Honey pork ribs to die for.
The Hangout, Chapora-Siolim Road. Cosy bar Comfort food!!
They do not know very good Latin, these botanists.!!!

Even though personally I don't ever seek out North Indian food in Goa, for some close vegetarian relatives, I had found Sharanam in Candolim to be an excellent option for Indian vegetarian kababs, curries and dal. On the last visit, Colors in Arpora showed a good veg thali too.
I find Calangute based Capricorn's pastas to be predictable for their herby and cheesy flavours. Their service tends to vary though.
For Fish-curry thali, Starlight in Arpora and Ritz Classic in Panjim rule the roost.
Florentine in Saligao is consistent with its Chicken Cafreal and pau.
On my last trip in April, I had checked out many of the IM recommended places on the Calangute-Candolim stretch and found Floyd's steaks highly avoidable (their garlic chilli Naan is excellent though) and Kimfa's Chinese good enough for one visit.

back on India Mike after a long hiatus..

was in Calangute last month same time for a week and it was wonderfully quiet and nice! Places i visited from my fading memory-

Flavours- Opposite the old closed petrol station on the high street, this is where The Palm Tree was earlier, above Macval Super Market- They made some killer cocktails, the food was allright though.

Ritz Classic in Panjim- one of my eternal favorites and getting a table is quite a challenge during busy lunch hours always! Seafood to die for!

Infantaria - the food is great as always , the booze deals look lucrative but are actually not, honestly am sick of seeing all these rich yuppies and their bimbo girlfriends thronging the place, ordering alot and wasting half the food and throwing money around,i actually turned around and sat looking at the wall and had my meal!

Mandovi in Panjim- some of the best cocktails at Rs.150 each! i swigged down 6 different ones and the look on the bartender's face was priceless! to match the good prices on the booze, Mandovi has the best Cafreal in Goa!

Molly Malones- I had always seen this one from the outside but never stepped it until this time,i was the only customer there and the Planters Punch cocktail was one of the best i had!Off season so they just serve drinks no food.

Bobs Inn in Candolim- i am not a smoker but i love the atmosphere of this place, the rain was pouring down so it made it even more nicer!the food was great, the cocktails not saying much about!

more soon...cheers!
