Surely this is just more bollocks from Goa's politicians?

Is it not the case that 100% foreign investment is legal in the tourist industry? And yet this guy wants to deport all foreigners doing business.

Whether running a bar constitutes 100% FDI in the tourism industry is debatable. The actual intent of the 100% FDI in tourism was I think intended for multinational hotel chains who wanted to build/operate starred hotels in India not for those who wanted to run micro businesses in the form of small bars and restaurants. Many FN's used the excuse of running a bar to stay in Goa indefinitely and I think this is the underlying reason for the crackdown.

I hear ya. Additionally many of them have a very snobbish attitude towards Indian customers.

Yes indeed. These "entrepreneurs" if I may call them seem to think they are the backbone of the tourism industry in Goa and without them everything in Goa would collapse. What an illusion!

The article states, that any foreigner running a bar/restaurant on a tourist visa will be deported. If they are on a Business Visa no problems.

Hi GC and Patti,
Sorry I don't agree about paying their staff low wages. I know boys who have worked in Goan Shacks and have not been paid at the end of the season, and A large resturant always full in the evenings, paid the boys 600 rupees at the end of the season - after they had deducted their uniform money. (Yes they may have had their food, but that is rediculous)

The authorities were being paid more than that for turning a blind eye to the music.

Working anywhere or running a business on a tourist visa has never been allowed. Of course that has not stopped several tourists from continuing to do so.

Maybe its only me, but the thought of running a business in Goa, i cant think of anything worse??.
When i ran, or run a business, its for profit, not for my health, im sure if you were to make a profit in Goa (difficult by our standards), some corrupt official, would find ways to extort this money from us.
Of course you shouldnt be able to run a business on a tourist visa.
Up to you??.
