Flying in on a charter and leaving on a scheduled flight

Went to Davidair yesterday to check on the options for getting to the UK and they told us that you can only fly back charter if you came out charter. It seems a strange rule but they have been in the business for years so they should know (when David was still running it, selling unused charter seats to the UK was his main business).
afaik there is nothing to stop you coming by charter and returning by scheduled (how could there be - change of plans, family problems etc etc?)

This rule has been in force for more years than I care to remember. We came schedule one year and went to Daytripper to get a charter back (in the days when he sold these tickets) and he told us he could not sell one to us because we did not come charter.

(Davidair - when David was still running it, selling unused charter seats to the UK was his main business).
How long has he not been there - wondered where he was.

He was here last year in a non-active capacity but when I asked after him today they just said he was in UK
