Flights booked - but where to stay in Goa?

Hi there! I know this is my first post on this forum but I would like some opinions and advice on where to stay in Goa. As you can see from the title of my post, I have booked flights to Goa, but need suggestions on where to stay!

I am going with my Girlfriend and will be arriving from the UK in Goa on 3rd January 2007. We just want a nice, quiet, relaxing holiday close to the beach with good sea and sand - and food of course! We will more than likely choose somewhere in the south as it sounds a bit quieter and less touristy down there.

Our main choice is Palolem as I have read good things about Ciaran's Camp and Palolem Beach Resort. But I have also read about the demolition that occured at the end of September. Are these places operational again?

Also seen people mention Agonda, saying it's very peaceful there. But what are the places to stay there called?

One final thing... how do people recommend booking the rooms? Is it best to phone up or e-mail? I take it very few places have online booking!

Sorry for all the questions. I have had a good look around the forums to gather information, but any other suggestions will be appreciated, so thanks in advance!

Go Goa

Hey,

End of December to Start of January is peak time for holidaying in Goa

Your accomodation depends on what kind of budget you have and what you want(as in...a place to chill out or a place to meet people)

As you said, South is good in that time of the year as it is relatively more peaceful...Benaulim is a good place to hang-in if you like to see a good mix of people

For bookings, you need to do some research as it is hard to find accomodation that time..be careful not to pay too much(or 100% in advance)

Have fun !

Thanks for the reply

We are looking to chill out, rather than meet people. Budget isn't really that much of an issue to be honest, but we'd like somewhere basic - preferably on (or near to) the beach, but clean and with a private toilet / bathroom.

Not considered Benaulim as a place to stay. I will look into that and see what I can find. Cheers.

Colmar beach resort, Colva; quite nice resort in front of beach with budget prices and nice view plus you will get peaceful environment, however dont expect service from the resort, that the only minus point with them, resort has nice swimming pool plus restaurant / bar with beach view; we have been visiting them since last four five years... you can contact them by phone: 0832-2788134

Hope this helps
regards

Thanks again for your additional replies.

I should hopefully be sorting out where to stay tomorrow. My Girlfriend has left it all in my hands so if we end up staying in the wrong place, then it's totally my fault. (She's a smart girl )

Horizon beach Resort

Had a fabulous time last year at Horizon Beach resort. Did the booking through the owner who owns a one bed room apartment, they charged us Rs 20000.00(twenty thousand rupees for a month/cdn $500.00Per Month)in November. Did not book through the hotel as tariffs were expensive and the resort is completely booked through charter flights.

For food, there are shacks outside and also the resort caters too at reasonable prices. We just had the accomadation and had a awesome time. We even hired a car, loved the place and would defintely recommend it for others. We booked it through last minute cos to find at the last minute is very difficult in Goa.

I have read about a place called The Mahnamahnas at Agonda in the review section - and I have seen their website... but I can find very little other information about the place.

Has anyone else stayed there or have any information about it? It looks really nice!

EIDT: Hmm... should I have posted this query in the Hotels and Lodging forum? I didn't realise it was there. Sorry!

You were overcharged. Rs 20,000 for a one bedroom apartment in Velsao is way too high.

Well! we did our bookings at the last minute. Well! One has to understand that Oct-Jan is a peak season in Goa, so it was worth it. No regrets!!!

Goa gurus please help

Hi Guys,

i am looking for a place in goa which is near a beach but most importantly near a Good Gym and Yoga centre. I know Yoga is everywhere in Goa but it is so hard to find a gym in India. Even if you do find a gym its like a small multi gym machine. I have been dissappointed alot in other cities. Can anyone help me or refer me to some places?
Thanks

Palolem beach is a great choice u guys have made. Its in Conacona south Goa. You can get there by taxi from Goa airport.
Two nice beach-side options are Bhakti Kutir and Chattai beach huts.
