First timers in Goa in October

We will be visiting Goa for the first time staying with RCI at the Haathi Mahal, Cavalossim (Mid October). What type of weather should we expect & where are the best places to eat. During our stay we will be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary & on that day we are looking for somewhere really special to eat & drink.

Check the weather statistics for Goa on http://www.imd.gov.in/section/climate/goa2.htm

It should be rainy mid-October. Expect rain once every 5 days.

Will appreciate it if you could give feedback about Haathi Mahal after you return. We are going there November.

Oh if it were only that simple!

You are converting long term averages into a statement of fact!

"It will rain once every five days"

It could be dry for two weeks at that time, or it could be torrential rain........such are the vagaries of the weather and in particular the Indian monsoon. Especially as it has gone on very late for the past two years, into December last year

Lets face it, once the monsoon does finish, it is likely that there will be uninterupted sunshine for about 180 days, so if the weather is an important factor for your holiday, just go a bit later and avoid the risk of ANY rain

Hey! I was just trying to be helpful!!! What is the point in saying "it could be dry for two weeks at that time, or it could be torrential rain" in reply to the question "What type of weather should we expect?".

Long term averages are there for that reason...to give an idea about the weather.

basically it is still monsoon so it could be a washout, it could be mostly dry or mostly wet or well who knows. you,ll need a little luck on your side for sure.
a month later would be better.
cavellosim is mostly a package tourist resort with not too many independant travellers.some package tours might be starting to arrive round about this time though i expect it to be fairly quiet.
not sure if the russian packages arrive before the brits.

I was once trapped in The Bharat Bar for 5 hours in the middle of October.Baga Road transformed itself into a raging torrent 2 foot deep and i had to rescue my hired scooter from being washed down the road.I would have a look at long term weather predictions for The North Western Monsoon as they are usually accurate. But i would expect rain at some point in your holiday. Its not that bad as its usually warm and the morning after wards every thing is sparkling clean and verdant green.

First timers in Goa.

Thanks for all your replies. I get the picture as far as the weather goes. Do any of you have any news about the best places to eat preferably under cover if the rainy season has not yet finished.

Well, you can't win them all.

The point in saying that is because it is totally accurate! In the latter stages of the monsoon, NO-ONE can predict what the weather will do, especially with the coastal influences. Also, in Goa you can ring a friend 20km away who has bright sunshine while you are enjoying hours of torrential rain. Take your holiday at that time and its in the lap of the gods,

By the way, from your studies of long term averages, any idea at what hour it will rain, when it does so once every five days?

Not my "studies" , I just take my data from whatever source i deem reliable , but I'll say it rains beetween 6 and 8PM every alternate Sunday , Tuesday and Friday.

C'mon..Loosen up. Everyone understands that any long term weather prediction is no more reliable than a coin toss. We can just give an idea of how things are gonna be. 20% chance of rain pretty much sums it for October in Goa.

Toronto , where I stayed , in November is pretty much a similar scenario. I have been there when it is a balmy +20 , freezing -11 , snowing 8 inches , heavy rain , bright and sunny , grey and overcast and once even the same day having snowfall in the morning and +15 by noon. So what am I supposed to tell someone planning to visit Toronto in November? "It may snow/be sunny/overcast/warm/cold/rain and by the way watch out for those falling icicles too while you are there"? I'll be accurate and unhelpful at the same time.

is a lot different from

Quote:

If accurate is unhelpful, so be it. The BBC has dumbed down it's weather forecasts too, to many complaints from those with a genuine interest in the weather.

Also I would appreciate not being told to "loosen up", that way it will not be necessary to ask you re-read what you post.............

Angry First timers in Goa in October

I am really sorry I asked the question about the weather & SOME NICE RESTAURANTS TO EAT IS. All I am getting back is an argument about weather statistics & nothing about some of the fine restaurants that may be available. If you wish to continue then post it on another persons thread as I am completely bored with your pettiness.

So try a "paid for" professional advice resource.

Ot even better, Google searches, but not on Haathi Mahal as you will probably not like what you read!

This is discussion forum, and sadly you are not in control of the responses, so telling us what we can or cannot say, and where is pointless.

Sheesh, Andyslats! Some provocative responses on here to a fairly straightforward question.
For what it's worth I've been to Goa three times in various recent Octobers and the weather has been just fine - experienced a monsoonal downpour for a couple of days (warm and very wet, but certainly an experience)and then fantastic weather after that. The place wasn't too crowded with tourists yet so that is another point in favour of going early in the season.
I imagine you'll have no trouble at all figuring out somewhere nice for the anniversary - have a great time.
