English Rose Bar- candolim
Hi there,
I have just visited this bar and I feel that the rest of you should know a couple of things about this place. I am staying an Candolim and I asked my guesthouse for a quite place for me to go for something to eat and have a drink - as I am on my own I am quite nervious and they suggested the english rose. I went there last Thursday and it was great so I went there again last night. Please be aware that owners rip people off by putting extra orders on your bill. As I had a 3 drinks I thought that I wouldnt notice an extra 300rupies on my bill!!! So Beware!!!! Has anyone else been to this place?? |

somehow it seems to be a popular place with the foreign tourists. And, doesn't close early too? People just seem to meet up at the Rose Bar (unless I am confusing it with some other place) to figure out where the parties are, and then head on out.

I thought checking what you're ordering + checking what the price is + keeping track of it + checking what the final bill is + checking if you get the right amount of change back + some haggling about change being available or not + a little arguing throughout the whole process is pretty much a part of the India experience anyway (don't forget the tip if the whole affair was reasonably pleasurable).
Does this really mean it is a bad pub?

When I was in Bundi in 1998, I went to restaurant with some Europeans. It was a restaurant that I never saw people in and had no menu. I asked the price before of my meal. The Europeans ordered a Thali and didn't ask the price. When the bill came the owner was charging them 100 apiece.
An outrageous price for a 15-20 rupee thali. They argued and argued to no avail. And ended up paying the 100!I remember the owner saying to me that I asked the price and they didn't, so it's their fault. NEVER ORDER ANYTHING WITHOUT KNOWING THE PRICE FIRST! |

Hi
I went to the english rose about 3 weeks ago - I thought it was a very friendly place with cool staff. but I agree with goagirl - i got my bill, and there was sone additional items on it I asked the owner (She was english ) and asked what has happened. I know this kind of think happends all the time all over the world but this happening to 2 girls in 1 month? - a bit strange I think |

No after about 15minutes she still insisted that the bill was correct - I really wasnt happy but I felt to get out of that place I paid the bill even though it wasnt right.
It was 200 ruppees over - I really hate complaining and I know I am a bit of a soft touch when it comes to this kind of thing. Not going there again! |

Hi
I do agree with machadinha in keeping track on what you are spending and I agree that haggeling is a part of the experience but when extra items appear on you bill?? Thats is what I have the problem with. I love haggeling in markets etc, you really do get to know people that way but when you get a menu with prices beside each item and when extra stuff is added - not very nice. But it all apart of the learing experience! |
