Do you think I would like Goa?
Its time to plan our next trip (two weeks in mid Jan 2008)
I have always wanted to see Hampi, but am not so sure about Goa these days. So I am thinking about doing a week in Goa, and a week in Hampi. But I am worried about what I will find in Goa, So I could do with some opinions and advice please. I know Varkala, Kovalam, and Kannor beaches well, and they are fine by me. ( I know that people can be a bit sniffy about Kovalam, but I liked it). Are the Goan beaches any better or worse? I dont like the full-on package holiday scene, and I dont like hoards of people. Is this what I am likely to find throughout Goa. I do like chilled out places, and good natured, open minded people. Is this what I am likely to find? Is it possible to find somewhere relatively quiet, with little hassle or intense curiosity in mid Jan?

January is peak time in Goa, so most places will be crowded. But Agonda, Mandrem and a few other beaches shouldn't be too bad at that time. Benaulim will be busy then, but if you walk a little bit south you should have alot of empty beach. Polem, the most south beach in Goa should be pretty empty. There's only 1 hotel on highway 17 at the turnoff to Polem. It's about a 1-2 km. walk from there to the beach.

another option might be Gokarna, just south of Goa.
or Palolem, more people, but relaxed and laid back |
