diving in goa
most certainly possible,
mother of my child was a diving instructor near panjim in a diving center attached to some 5 star hotel, but it is definitly one of the least pleasent places to dive and even more so to complete a padi course. if you really wanna do it in india go for the andamans or even the lakshadweep otherwise i would recommend thailand where i learned to dive-cheap and best om shanti |

Goa Diving
At last memory there are two diving schools working out of Goa.
Both are in South Goa. One works out of 5 star hotels. Check www.barrracudadiving.com The other operates out of Joet's Guest House at Bogmalo Beach. More information at www.goadiving.com Be very cynical about the photo galleries. The waters are incredibly murky and the marine life very uninteresting. (At least, to their credit, the barracuda site admits as much.) Also, prices are very high for such a limited experience. I did my Padi training on the small island of Koh Tao in Thailand, where the water was fantastically clear and the coral and other marine life absolutely amazing. Also, the Open Water Course was about 100 pounds, and that included good beach hut accomadation. There are about 50 diving schools on the island so the choice is yours. Would welcome your feedback if you do decide to dive in Goa. |

I didn't see any diving going on in Goa. I guess from what others are saying it's possible, but lets just say it's not exactly a well-known dive spot. I can't imagine you'd see much in the murky waters there.
I also did my open watercourse in Koh Tao, Thailand - which is a great place for beginners. That said, having done my advanced course in Borneo, Borneo wins hands down!! It's just as cheap as Thailand and the marine life is spectacular! The waters in Koh Tao are clear and nice but you don't really see that much variety of marine life. In Borneo (Sipadan, Mabul, Sibuan) we saw hundreds of turtles, sharks (including leopard sharks & hammerheads), loads of macro life, giant trevally, barracuda, frog fish, scorpion fish, huge napoleon wrasse .... the list is endless. The only down side?? You'll never want to dive anywhere else again!! Even the Great Barrier Reef seemed dull after Borneo!! |

Utila island off of Honduras is another cheap and good place to get your PADI certificate. $160 U.S. It's a big travelers hangout. Sort of like Goa. Great diving also.
