Cruises on the Mandovi River

I have heard that this is a good thing to do whilst in Goa. Apparently music and dancing during the cruise.

has anyone been on this and would like to comment please.

I would prefer to arrange it myself if I go. Is that possible or does one have to go through a tour company?

how much is the 'cruise' and how long does it last for.

Do they cram people in making it uncomfortable?

Are drinks available on board?

What times are the cruises.

A lot of questions but would appreciate any comments.

thanks, Pete

There are 3/4 companies who manage these, and 1 of them is GTDC (Govt body) and Royal Cruises and 1/2 more.
Each Cruise is around 1 hours duration, and each Cruise can accomodate 150-200 persons.
There is a Bar and Snacks Section and people and sit and have drinks and look around the river.
On another floor there is a stage where the performers perform - either local dances or a small troop from ukraine etc.
You can join the dances.
The cruise is only during evening times dep at 6pm, 7pm etc.

Thanks for that. Where do they leave from? Is it necessary to book in advance or is OK to just turn up?

The "cruises on the mandovi" - complete with the song and dance routine, imho, doesn't hold a candle to the cruise (again, along the mandovi) that wends its way all the way past Old Goa. You'll get an outstanding view of the river, not to mention the churches as you travel upstream.

Dunno if a song and dance routine is part of the deal though.

Ask around to see if any operators still offer that trip. Its money well spent.

No need to book in advance. The boats leave from the riverfront in Panjim.
